When Renna and Levi moved to the next course, Kelan and Jada joined Briella and Jensen at the eighth hole.
Renna went first, and when she stood back to watch Levi, she noticed him taking his time with it all. He joked around with the last shot, drawing it out longer, and Renna believed he purposely missed the easy shot so he could mess around again.
She had to encourage him to get it over with so they could join up with the other four.
After the final shot, he pulled her back and whispered, "I would rather just play with you alone."
Renna's heart swelled. She loved the idea of hanging out with Levi alone, but with her friends having fun nearby, she wanted to join in.
"Please," Levi begged when Renna said no. "Just us. We don't need them."
"I want to play all together," she told him as she gently pulled her arm from him and turned to walk to the group. Looking back, Levi didn't move, and she held her hand out and said, "Please, Levi. I promise I'll make it up to you somehow."
He sighed. "Alright. Fine." Taking her hand, he kissed her knuckles and smirked. "But you owe me."
Jensen's arm hung over Briella's shoulder, and Briella leaned back against him.
As they stopped to watch Kelan making his way around the course, Levi copied Jensen. Standing behind Renna, he draped himself over her and pulled her in. His leg fit between her legs and her body tensed.
She looked up and connected with Briella's stare. Her eyebrow flicked up and Renna heard her in her head. Say something or I will.
He's not trying to make me uncomfortable, she thinks. He's just trying—wanting to be close with me. She didn't want to embarrass him in front of everyone. I'll talk to him later. Not now.
Renna relaxed and leaned against him. She let Briella see the tiny shake of her head, telling her to drop it, without anyone else noticing.
Levi isn't used to my way of romance. With no touching and feeling. With boundaries. A limit that can easily be reached. No sex. He's used to deep and unbounded intimacy. Nakedness. A closeness that I cannot give him.
He's given up so much and changed things in his life to be with me, the least I could do for him is deal with a little discomfort and let him push past my boundaries a small amount to give him more.
Levi snuggled his head into the crook of her neck. His warmth breath tickled her. The arm over her shoulder wrapped around her, resting below her breasts.
Briella pursed her lips and gave her a sad, disappointing look. Fear prickled at her heart. Renna held her breath as Briella opened her mouth to speak.
Jensen beat her to it. "There's a bathroom over there if you wanna...you know." He gestured to the main building behind them.
Briella didn't say anything, but nudge him with her elbow instead.
Levi laughed into Renna's ear.
"I've seen these bathrooms. They're disgusting...and tiny," Jada said, looking small and uncertain. Renna smiled at her to make her feel better at her attempt to help the best she can.
"That didn't stop him with his last girlfriend, Chloe," Jensen told Jada. He looked back at Renna and Levi. "Right, bro?"
A swirling began in Renna's stomach. She didn't like where this conversation was heading. If she could, she would change the subject, but nothing came to mind.
"Yeah." Levi chuckled. "She would cram herself into a box to do it."
Jensen and Levi burst into laughter, and Briella used the opening to break away from Jensen. Renna attempted to do the same, but Levi tightened his grip around her and kept her in place.
"What about Stella?" Jensen said, making Renna's breath get stuck in her throat. "She was horny as hell."
"Oh yeah. We had a lot of fun before she turned crazy."
The closeness made her skin crawl, but she couldn't get away. Every movement Levi made caused a zip of electricity through her body. Every stroke. Each touch. His breath. She wanted space. Didn't want to be near him or Jensen during this conversation. How could she get away?
She focused on Kelan making his way around the course to try take her mind away from the conversation, but each time he paused to listen, she bounced back into it.
"Nah, bro." Jensen shook his head. "I'm sure she was crazy from the beginning." He held he golf club on his shoulders, behind his neck, with both hands, and placed his foot up on a rock in front of him. "I remember on the third day after you two met, I was in the kitchen and she walked out just completely naked. And she saw me and just waved."
"Oh yeah!" Levi exclaimed, straightening up, giving Renna an opening to escape his hold. "I remember that. I came out of the bathroom and you looked like you'd seen a ghost. It was so funny."
"Well, it wasn't something I was expecting and I didn't know how to tell you about it, but, bro, you didn't even care."
I should have listened to Levi and played with just him. If it had stayed just us, it wouldn't have—I wouldn't be stuck in this conversation—the conversation wouldn't have even started if we stayed away.
Renna avoided looking at Jensen, but each time she snuck a peek, she caught him take a glance at her.
He's doing it on purpose? What is he doing? She could understand why Jensen brought up the topic—anything to make her uncomfortable—but she kept asking herself why Levi continued to talk about it. Does he really think I want to hear this? Has he forgotten I'm here? I've never heard boy talk before, and if this is what it's like, I don't want to hear it again.
Kelan walked off the course without saying a word.
When Briella saw him, she dragged Jensen by his shirt towards the course. "You're up."
"You don't want to go first?" he asked her, and she shook her head. Stepping up to the starting point, he gave Renna and Levi a last glance and a smile.
A pang hit her heart. How could he be so cruel? And receive joy from it?
Levi returned to his place behind her, took her in his arms and leaned down to say, "Don't worry, baby. I'm sure you're better than all of them."
That's not my problem. She almost said it, but lost courage at the last second. I'll say something later. I have to, before Briella takes it upon herself to fix it.
