Together they walked hand in hand through the isles of stalls, tents, and tables. Her new bracelet dangled around her wrist.
She had to contain her giddy joy. Restrain herself from skipping.
Take it slow, a voice in her head told her. Don't let history repeat itself. Go slow and be sure. But a deep gut feeling told her he was different. Still, she promised herself to not drop her guards too quick.
Renna's phone buzzed in her bag at the same time Jensen's chimed in his pants pocket. They both pulled their phones out to discover Briella had created a group chat with all five of them. More messages came through in their hands. Her three messages read:
'Where is everyone at?'
'I'm alone at the snack bar'
'Anyone interested in going to lunch somewhere?'
Renna began typing when Jada's reply came through. 'I'm with Kelan watching the dancing.' Renna could hear the happy music in the distance. A second text came through seconds later. 'He says he's starving.'
"You hungry?" Jensen asked her.
"Yeah, a little."
He typed a message. Renna read it on her phone after he hit send. 'Renna and I agree to lunch. Where to?'
They waited. Stared at each other. Smiled. Their phones buzzed. Jada replied.
'Meet at Bri's car. We'll figure it out together.'
Without a word, they both turned and walk to the gate to the car park.
Briella sent a text through on the way. 'Wait am I the only one alone??'
Renna's lips split into a grin as she replied. 'Seems like it.' Jensen's gaze burned on her until she hit send and he looked down to read her message and Briella's reply.
'You losers suck'
At the car, the four of them gathered around until Briella showed up with the car keys. She walked out the gates with three bags dangling off her arms; phone and keys in her hands.
"What did you buy?" Jada asked as she approached.
"A few thing I needed, and a lot more things that I didn't," she replied. "I'll probably regret it when I check my bank account, but for now, I'm happy with it."
She put her bags down at her feet and they discussed lunch. After several suggestions, they all decided on a nice restaurant not too far away.
Kelan suggested it. Jada didn't hesitate to agree. Apparently, they had a date night there a few weeks ago and had talked about going back as soon as they left. They said it had a great atmosphere, kind staff, and mouthwatering food.
With everyone's agreement, Jada pointed to Jensen and said, "Although, you'll be a little underdress for this place."
"Yeah, you look more like you're going to the beach, bro." Kelan slapped his hand down on Jensen's shoulder.
Jensen looked down at his casual outfit. "Nothing wrong with the beach."
"Well if you're okay with it," Jada said, "it won't be a problem."
"I can drop by my place and change," Jensen suggested.
"Yeah," said Briella. "A quick stop, and then to lunch. You'll just have to give me directions."
"No problem."
Kelan pulled his car keys out of his pocket. "I'll follow behind."
