May is slowly heating up into June; the days are getting warmer, the trees are a vibrant shade of green, birds are chirping and bees are buzzing about the beautifully bloomed flowers. Steve walks towards the bakery, takeout bag in hand; he can't park anywhere near it because of the working crew, but they are supposed to be clearing out today. The grand opening of Rosie's Bakery is tomorrow, and Steve is excited for Aubrey, she has worked hard on this. He's also excited he will get his girlfriend back; he's a selfish man, what can he say? She has spent all her free time reworking the menu and interviewing new staff members.

The once red-bricked building is now a vibrant white; the old scuffed-up glass windows are crystal clear, with Rosie's Bakery in a pretty script font on one of the windows. The trim around the doors and windows is a sleek black. Steve holds the door open for a guy carrying a ladder out. Steve couldn't believe this was the same building; the once dark tiled floor was now a beautiful black and white pattern. The red brick wall inside was no longer the red exposed brick, but white with the grooves painted black; the other walls were covered in shiplap. The counter was butcher block on top, a galvanized metal wrapped around it, a much larger and longer display case sat next to it going to the wall, leaving an opening on the other side of the register for employees to get in and out. The black metal letters were on the brick wall behind the display and register, 'Homemade FROM OUR KITCHEN TO YOURS.'  On the far side of the bakery, the original shelves still hung, exposed wood and metal piping. Steve noticed Aubrey had already started putting the coffee beans and grounds back onto the shelf, also adding jars of jams and jellies; next to the shelf was a small wooden three-shelved display with a sign hanging 'FRESH BAKED BREAD.' The seating had also been updated; small square wooden tables with black metal chairs, with cushions on the seats which were placed around the open floor.

"Hey, handsome.", Aubrey said when she noticed Steve as she walked out of the kitchen.

Steve smiled, "Hey, pretty girl. The bakery looks great.", he said, opening his arms for Aubrey. He kissed the top of her head as she snuggled into his chest. Taking a deep breath of her lavender shampoo and lemon body wash, "I brought you lunch. Can you take a break?" he asked.

Aubrey hummed, nodding her head; she looked up at him. Steve leaned down to press a gentle kiss onto her soft lips, which quickly deepened as she wrapped her hands around his neck.

Steve pulled back, "Lunch?", he suggested.

"Yes, please.", Aubrey said, taking his hand and walking towards one of the tables.

Steve sat the bag down, pulling out two containers of broccoli and cheese soup with sliced bread. "I know the bread isn't probably as good as yours.", he said, winking at her. Aubrey blushed, looking down at her hands; he loved seeing those cheeks pink up. Once the food was set out, Steve took a seat across from her.
