Steve nodded to the doormen on his way into his apartment building, stopping by the mail room on his way to the stairs. Mail in hand, he quickly jogged up the stairs taking two at a time; he was ready to start the weekend. Aubrey was staying until Monday; he wanted to take her out for her birthday, but she said she would rather stay in, watch movies and cuddle on the couch. If that's what she wanted, then that's what she would get. Walking up the hall to his door, Steve couldn't help but smile. Aubrey had decorated the outside of his apartment for Halloween with a three-tiered pumpkin placed on the right side of his door; on the other side stood a sign that said Happy Halloween, with little pumpkins scattered around the base that she had painted little faces on, a brown mat sat on the floor in front of the door in thick letters it said STAY SPOOKY with little ghosts all over it. But the icing on the cake was the massive round black and white striped wooden door hanger, with Happy Halloween in orange wooden letters and the enormous bow he had ever seen at the top.

Stepping into his apartment, Steve was first met with the smell of warm apple cider, then the pitter-patter of paws as Kash ran to greet him.

"Oh no, pal, what did she do to you?" he chuckled, crouching down to greet the German Shepherd, that was dressed in a sweater that looked oddly similar to his old USO tour costume, a little soft mask over his face with an A in the middle and a little plastic shield on his back.

"I happen to think he looks adorable!" Aubrey hollered from the kitchen.

Steve followed the smell of what he thought was homemade bread into the kitchen, stopping at the doorway; he leaned against the frame crossing his arms and watching. His eyes slowly worked up Aubrey's body as she stood in front of the stove wearing dark grey knee-high socks with tombstones, black cats, pumpkins, a bubbling cauldron, skulls, and bats all over them. Black cotton shorts that were just on the right side of too short, and an orange crop top with two little ghosts on it. Her strawberry blonde hair was braided back into two pigtails, and she had opted for her thick-framed glasses over contacts.

He couldn't get over how right this felt, Aubrey in his space, Kash leaving dog hair on everything.

"Baby, you okay?" Aubrey inquired as she looked over her shoulder at the super soldier.

He was behind her in a few short strides, wrapping his arms around her waist and molding his chest to her back. "I'm fine, pretty girl," he smiled, resting his chin over her shoulder. "What are you making?" he asked, looking down at the pot as he kissed her bare shoulder.

Aubrey took in an audible breath feeling his warm lips, the scratch of his beard on her bare skin; she melted into his touch. "Chicken gnocchi soup," she sighed as he kissed the curve of her shoulder up her neck. "T-There's some focaccia in the oven, too," she stuttered.
