[ single, suicidal, and with nothing truly left for him, the sapphire prince returns to his barren kingdom.

now, he sits alone in an empty throne room, leaning with his back against his throne. an open backpack lays a few feet away, its' contents spilled across the cracked marble.

the palace has been reclaimed by nature. sunlight pours through the shattered ceiling. butterflies flit about the flowering vines growing in the pillars and rafters.

a chunk of rotted wood from above splinters and falls, landing a few inches from the prince's tail.

he doesn't flinch. tilting his head back, looking up at the ruins, he closes his eyes.

maybe this was a good decision. ]
