the Fury species is arguably one of my oldest original species, alongside Mystics, with the first known Fury going by the name Cahira.

Furies are magical beings with shapeshifting magic [they do not fall into the category of shapeshifters]. they always take the form of an animal under the Felidae family - from domestic house cats to tigers, servals, lynxes...you get it.

a Fury's felid form's size and appearance depends heavily on what element they resonate with the most, but will not change according to learned magic.
for example: a Fury that resonated with the element of Water from birth will always have an aquatic felid form - if they decide to master the element of Dark instead, their felid form will not change to a Dark-like form.

if a Fury has great mastery over their element, their felid form will appear unnaturally large. however, self-care and fitness is a vital part of maintaining a large, powerful felid form, as being unhealthy will greatly harm the Fury during transformation.
aging also plays a factor. even if an elderly Fury takes great care of themselves and still has mastery over their element, their felid form will be more delicate and small.

by default, Furies appear as normal humans with feline features - but it's never just the ears and tail. Furies can range from being 60% fur and 40% humanoid, to just having some fur on their limbs and a set of ears without a tail. it varies greatly, and unpredictably.

also their felid forms tend to be monstrous rather than aesthetically pleasing. I mean some of them are very pretty - take Midnight Panthra's form for example - but felid forms usually prioritize function over flashiness. at least it works!

they have similar family and bonding habits to humans and stray cats - most Fury households have at least six or seven members including the parents, and a lot live either with or near relatives. female Furies will give often birth to litters of 3-5 offspring, and male Furies are surprisingly really great dads.
parent Furies are always close in relationship, and commonly have a mutually strong bond to both each other and their offspring. a great example is Hobs & Midnight Panthra.

Furies' sheer magical power grants them 9 lives from birth. if they use them wisely, a Fury can live for hundreds of years.
