Mike's pov
I stormed out of school and let out a loud groan. The only reason I agreed to come to this stupid Winter formal was because Lucas wouldn't shut up about it but he hasn't left Max's side, not even for 5 minutes. I mumbled small complaints to myself as I walked towards the Bicycle rack. Yes, it was a little strange to bike to this sort of thing but I didn't care. I walked my bike back towards the exit but spotted someone sat on the pavement against some wall. I recognized him from some of my lessons, it was Will Byers. I had practically grown up with that kid but we've never spoken...I didn't even notice he was here tonight.
"Are you okay?" I called moving closer, and as he looked up I noticed light tear stains down his face. With my sudden presence he immediately wiped his face.
"Sorry..." He mumbled practically jumping up ready to rush away but I felt like I had to stop him.
"Wait!" I grabbed onto his arm lightly pulling him back. He turned looking me in the eyes. They were full of sadness and all I could do was give him a small smile,
"Do...do you want a ride home?" I hesitated before signaling to the bike. He followed my gaze before turning back giving me a confused expression,
"On that?" He laughed softly sniffing a little. This only caused me to look down laughing.
"Just...sit on the front or something!" I laughed motioning my head towards the bicycle.
"Why are you even offering?" He asked letting out a small sigh.
"Well surprisingly, I am a decent person," I laughed a little, "And I can see you're upset...it's the least I can do?" I gave him a warm smile moving my bike closer.
"Thank you." He whispered softly finally returning my smile.
"um I don't exactly know how this is gonna...work!" I laughed as I climbed onto the bike's seat and attempted to help Will get on.
"um..." Will mumbled to himself as he tried to climb up but instead fell onto my lap causing us both to blush. Will was about to get up when I sighed,
"No, stay there!" I laughed and attempted to bike off. We managed to both stay on for a few seconds but soon the bike began to shake and we both ended up on the floor. We both burst into floods of laughter and after a couple of minutes I finally made my way onto my feet holding out my hand to help Will up.
"Maybe...we should just walk?" Will smiled once he was up. I nodded with a smile on my face,
"Maybe you're right." I laughed and we began walking. Will guided me to his house, he lived pretty close to me surprisingly. I dropped my bike at the end of his drive and followed him up to his porch.
"..." We both stood in silence.
"Do you feel any better?" I softly asked,
"Yes thank you." He whispered back.
"What was wrong...if you don't mind me asking?" Will let out a small smile,
"Maybe I'll tell you one day." I rolled my eyes a smile on my face.
"Maybe..." I whispered trailing off. My eyes moved to take all of Will in. In the moonlight he looked...good, like really good. I didn't know what it was but I- I felt...something? I hesitated at first but as I remembered the walk back a sudden feeling of invigorate took over,
"Maybe we could do something again...some other time?" I stuttered nervous for his response but he smiled and not just a sympathetic smile a genuine one.
"I'd like that." He whispered looking up at me. We, yet again stood in silence. This time it was a different type of silence. It wasn't awkward or uncomfortable...it was as if we were just taking each other in?
"I'll see you later." Will smiled leaning up placing a soft kiss on my cheek before walking inside closing the door behind. I stood there, stuck on the porch for a second. I shook the blush off of my cheek and made my way back down the drive before picking up my bike and rushing off home.
Who knew a small act of generosity could do so much...
