The room Fang led Sentinel into was dim, lit only by sparsely placed lamps. It was also absolutely packed with stuff. There were racks full of clothes on hangers, bookshelves full of books on every possible subject, and tables with what seemed to be just random stuff sitting on them. There were even several mannequins that were made up to look more like real people, especially in the dimness of the room.
The place seemed to be built to be a maze, with various paths leading through the room and various objects seeming deliberately placed to break up lines of sight.
"What is this room even for?" Sentinel asked before he could stop himself.
"Finding and engaging the enemy in close combat." Fang answered, his tone saying that the answer seemed obvious to him. "I think she wants you to find her, new guy."
Sentinel nodded at that and started slowly making his way around the room. He checked inside of the clothes racks, in the nooks and crannies around the bookcases, and went along each pat through the room just to make sure. Finally, he went back to Fang.
"Couldn't find her?" He asked, one eyebrow raising slightly.
"No, it's just that she's behind you." Sentinel grinned as he spoke, and a pair of pink eyes opened behind Fang.
As Fang turned around, the girl who's hologram had been reading in the first room faded into existence. He body was still constantly changing, moving through various sizes, shapes, and skin tones.
"Boo!" The girl shouted, making Fang jump backwards far enough that he almost rammed into Sentinel. Sentinel noticed how Fang's hand darted behind his back, only to drop to his side again as he seemed to recognize the girl.
"Damn it Chesyr, I told you to stop doing that." Fang chastised the girl, but the warmth in his voice robbed it of any real sting.
"I'm sorry captain, but I couldn't help it." The girl, Chesyr, said. She was making puppy dog eyes at Fang, but the mischief in her voice told Sentinel that she absolutely meant to do it, and that she would almost definitely do it again if she could. "I just wanted to give our newest member a real test. After all, it takes more than just good eyes to be a good watchdog."
"You'd been standing there since we entered the room," Sentinel said matter-of-factly. He figured he might as well show off just a little bit. "I could hear you breathing, and it never moved the entire time I searched the room."
"Very impressive." Chesyr said. She stepped forward and offered her hand to him. "I'm Chesyr, and it's very nice to meet you Sentinel."
Sentinel grabbed her hand and shook it, surprised at how real a hand that was constantly changing in appearance felt. Her hand felt almost delicate, but the force she put in her grip said she was anything but.
"The pleasure is all mine, Chesyr." Sentinel smiled at her. "So you go by Chesyr? Like the Cheshire Cat?"
"Exactly the one." Cheshire let go of his hand and stepped back. "Except it isn't my smile that stays when I disappear, as you already know."
She disappeared and reappeared a few times, making it look like somebody was playing with her opacity. Her eyes remained as opaque as ever, though. The movement, combined with her ever-changing body, made Sentinel blink hard several times to try and fight off a sudden headache.
"Will you tell me something, Sentinel?" She asked when he opened his eyes.
"Sure," Sentinel answered, and out of the corned of his eye he saw Fang lean against the wall and smile.
