Oracle

Home Sweet Home

Washington State, USA

October 8th, 2019

"I'm telling you, you'd have an absolute blast!" Oracle said, untwisting herself from the compass pose she was in. Next to her, Chesyr was doing the same, although the other woman looked much more fluid in her movement. Oracle was still waiting for her hamstrings to release.

"Yeah, but there's also a decent chance that I'll get eaten by some random dinosaur that came out of the underbrush." Chesyr said dryly. She moved into the compass pose going the other direction, and Oracle followed suit. "I don't think I need those nightmares."

"Don't worry, I'll have my tickle chickens protecting you!" Oracle said, still trying to convince Chesyr to play Ark with her. Therizinosaurus was her favorite dinosaur, and it was one of her favorite things to tame. "I'll go do all the dangerous dino taming, and you can build our base and farm."

"...I'll think about it." Chesyr relented as she put her foot straight into the air next to her head. Oracle knew that meant she was going to do it.

Oracle was about to tell Chesyr about the sheep and dodos that she could ranch, but a knock at the door stopped her. The door opened, revealing Fang, and Oracle quickly shifted into a less compromising position. Chesyr, of course, couldn't be bothered.

"What's up, cap?" Chesyr asked, rolling herself so she was laying on her side with her leg still straight up in the air.

To Fang's credit, he didn't seem to react to either of their positions. Of course, he was already breathing hard and sweating, Oracle assumed from the run he went on and all the weight he was still wearing.

"Team meeting in ten," Fang said. "The twins are just about done with the bread, so we'll just do it in the dining room."

"What's it about?" Oracle asked. Fang usually talked about whatever a meeting's focus was with her first, so this must have been a spur of the moment idea of his.

"Our newest member." Fang rolled his shoulders, shifting the weight on his jacket. "I'll explain more there, I have got to shower before it's time."

"Want company?" Chesyr giggled. "Oracle has a spare ten minutes."

Oracle's mouth fell open, and she turned to glare at Chesyr.

Chesyr's giggle turned into a full-on cackle, and she rolled onto her back. "Oh my God, your faces!"

Oracle could feel herself blushing, but when she turned to look at Fang, she saw that he was just as red as she was. She leaned over and smacked Chesyr on the stomach, and the other woman's laugh turned into a yelp of surprise.

"Aaaaanyway," Fang said, "I think I'm going to go shower now."

Fang practically ran out of the room, and Oracle smacked Chesyr again.

"Why'd you do that?" She hissed.

"Why didn't you make the offer yourself?" Chesyr countered, rubbing her belly.

Oracle ignored the brief flash in her head of surprising Fang in the shower, instead focusing on glaring daggers at Chesyr.

"You know damn well why." She said. They had had this conversation before, several times. "Let's just go, alright?"

"Okay," Chesyr said meekly. Oracle heaved a sigh and stood up.

The two of them put their shoes on in silence, Oracle still fuming about what Chesyr had done. Oracle knew that Fang didn't see her that way, and bringing it up to him would only make it awkward. Besides, from what she knew of his past, Fang had a rough relationship when he was younger, and she didn't want to risk him freaking out over her confessing to him. She wasn't going to risk losing her best friend, not to mention throwing off their entire team dynamic, over a false hope of something good happening.
