Sentinel

The Eyes of Fate Headquarters

Washington State, USA

October 1st, 2019

"Is that really all that you have?" Fang asked, gesturing to the bag over Sentinel's shoulder. The others behind him also looked surprised, and Sentinel figured from the looks of things that they had been waiting for him to get back so they could help him move stuff in.

"It is." Sentinel shrugged out of the duffel bag and rubbed his shoulder. The bag was full, and heavy, but it was the only thing he had. "Everything that I own that I thought I should bring, if I got hired, is right here."

Once Sentinel had been officially brought in, the Eyes had offered to send him home so he could collect his stuff to move in here, since the entire team stayed together. They had seemed surprised when he said he had everything he needed with him, but they had simply told him to go get it.

"You mean you don't have any more clothes, or mementos, or anything else back at your home that you want to bring here?" Chesyr asked.

"No home to go back to, not really." Sentinel just shrugged again. "Nothing from my old life that I really need, except for what's here."

"But, like, you don't even have any more luggage in your car?" Vyper asked this time.

"No car either." Sentinel spread his arms out in surrender. "I caught a ride out this direction and walked the rest of the way. Left my bag at the edge of the woods before I walked this way."

"No biggie, new guy." Ranger walked up and hefted Sentinel's bag effortlessly. "Follow me, I'll show you your room."

"I'm coming too," Fang said.

"I'm going to get started on dinner, then," Vyper said, turning and heading towards the kitchen. He tossed over his shoulder as he walked away. "I probably won't poison this one."

"I'll help poison it." Chesyr followed Vyper out.

"I'm going to go get some work done then," Oracle said. She started to turn away, then whipped back around and strode over to Sentinel. She held out her hand to Sentinel. "Phone."

Sentinel, feeling a little shocked at Oracle's change in mood, handed over his phone without question.

"Do you have a computer or anything else with internet in that bag?" She asked, her no-nonsense tone still a surprise.

"No."

Oracle's eyebrows furrowed in confusion, and she shot a look at Fang, who merely shrugged.

"He's just a kid, Oracle. It's not that shocking."

"There's no way that I'm that much younger than all of you," Sentinel said.

"Anyway, I'm taking this with me." Oracle held up Sentinel's phone. "I'll give it back at dinner, but I need to install some stuff on it first."

Sentinel nodded at her, then turned back to Ranger. "You said something about showing me my room?"

"Right, yeah, that's what we were doing." Ranger slung Sentinel's luggage over his shoulder and led him up the stairs, Fang following after them.

Sentinel noticed that the upstairs seemed much less of a maze than the downstairs did. The hallways were long, but the number of doors were cut down by quite a bit. Sentinel couldn't decide if there was a lot of space between the rooms as well, or if they were simply that big. Even so, it was still almost a dozen rooms until Ranger stopped at a door in the middle of a hallway.
