The sun was only just rising when Sentinel woke up. It wasn't all that surprising, since he had gone to bed pretty soon after getting to his room. After all the excitement of the day before, he had been exhausted. He could barely remember taking a shower, and he didn't remember crawling under his blankets at all. That honestly wasn't all that surprising, either.
What was surprising was finding Chesyr laying in bed next to him. She was already awake, and smiling at him from the other half of the bed.
"Morning," She said, reaching over and patting his head.
"Morning," He returned the greeting, confused. "Not to be rude, but when, how, and why did you join me in bed?"
"I joined you last night after I left Fang's room. I was a little worried about you after how you reacted to everything last night, so I thought I'd come make sure you were alright. Thing is, you were already asleep, so I just decided that I'd join you in case you had a nightmare."
Sentinel nodded. Everything she said seemed pretty par for the course where Chesyr was concerned, right down to the open-endedness of what she had been doing in Fang's room.
"So that's two of my questions. What about 'how'?"
"Through the door?" Chesyr answered. Sentinel gave her a look, and she raised her hands. "What else do you want?"
"How did you get in without waking me up?" Sentinel specified.
"I just opened the door and walked in, honest." Chesyr said, getting defensive. "I wasn't even trying to be sneaky, I thought you'd still be awake."
Sentinel furrowed his brow as he thought. It had been years since somebody was able to sneak up on him like that. If Chesyr had just walked into his room, what did that mean?
"Chill," Chesyr said, putting a hand on his shoulder. "You were tired yesterday, so it's not surprising that you slept deeper than usual. You could also just be getting used to the noise we make."
"Maybe it's because I feel safe here."
That made Chesyr pause, and Sentinel could see her face turning as pink as her eyes.
"I'm glad that you do," she said. "Let's get dressed and head for the kitchen. We can snag a pre-breakfast snack, and maybe do some working out before the others get up.
"Sounds good." Sentinel smiled and threw his blankets back. He climbed out and headed for the bathroom, ignoring the fact that he was just in his underwear around Chesyr.
He also pointedly ignored the fact that Chesyr was only wearing a T-shirt as she headed towards her own room to get dressed. He threw on some comfortable clothes, brushed his teeth and combed his hair, then went into the hall to wait for her. It was another couple of minutes before Chesyr reappeared, wearing clothes quite similar to his own. She cocked her head down the hall, and he fell into step with her as they headed towards the kitchen.
"Can I ask you a question?" Sentinel asked as they entered the kitchen and he saw it was empty.
"Sure, but tell me what you want to eat first." Chesyr countered. She made her way towards the pantry.
"Oranges, if there's any in there." Sentinel answered. Chesyr came back out carrying two oranges in one hand and a green apple in the other. Sentinel grabbed a paper towel and starting peeling the oranges. Chesyr took a bite of her apple and watched him, waiting for him to speak. "What did you and Oracle do in Fang's room last night?"
