"Damn, Vyper," Ranger said, leaning back in his seat and patting his stomach. "That pizza was even better than usual."
"I tried out a new recipe," Vyper said, wiping his hands on a napkin. "New mixture for the crust, and even I've got to say it was great."
"Yeah, it really was good," Sentinel added, looking at the half a pizza still sitting on his plate. Vyper had made personal pizzas for everyone, and the only person besides him who didn't eat the entire thing was Chesyr.
Okay, so maybe tasting one of everything that Chesyr swiped from the pantry was a bad idea.
"I hope you guys saved room for dessert, because I made something special for today." Vyper got out of his chair and headed to the kitchen, and Sentinel groaned internally. How on Earth could he eat anything more?
Vyper came out carrying plates, and set one in front of each of them. Everyone had plates full of brownies, exactly the kinds that Sentinel had seen Vyper baking earlier, except for Sentinel's, which had one of everyone else's brownies on it as well as the plain ones.
"Before we eat," Vyper said, stopping everyone with a brownie halfway to their mouths. "I want to see which one Sentinel likes best. Any bets?"
Sentinel expected everyone to call out their own, but instead the results skewed heavily towards the plain ones and Fang's frosted brownies. Sentinel realized they were all looking expectantly at him to see if they were right, and gulped.
I can't even eat one of these right now, how am I going to get through all of them? he thought.
Rather than admit he was full, and possibly tip Vyper off about the hijinks earlier, Sentinel grabbed Oracle's fluff-topped brownie and took a bite.
"Damn." Sentinel took another bite immediately, savoring how well the sweet strawberry fluff went with the rich chocolate. "That is. So good."
He took a drink before moving on to the next one, Chesyr's turtle brownies that were topped with candied pecans and caramel. It was overwhelmingly sweet, and he said as much.
"Agreed," Vyper said, and everyone except for Chesyr nodded. "They're too sweet for everyone except her."
Sentinel set down the half-eaten brownie and grabbed Ranger's dark chocolate one. The slightly bitter taste was welcome after Chesyr's tooth-rottingly sweet one.
"That's a good brownie, but not quite my style." Sentinel finished it anyway before grabbing Vyper's blonde brownie.
"I've never actually had a blonde brownie before," he admitted, "What does it taste like?"
"I could tell you," Vyper said, "Or you could try it and find out like a normal person."
"Nothing about any of us is normal," Fang tossed out while Sentinel took a bite. Vyper just shrugged.
"Tastes like butterscotch, and caramel." Sentinel took another bite. "And walnuts?"
Vyper gave a low whistle. "Damn, all your senses are top notch, aren't they? It was walnut extract."
"It's really good. I probably like it better than Oracle's." Sentinel grabbed Fang's next. He already knew he liked the frosting, so he didn't waste any time in devouring the entire thing. His stomach was actually feeling less full as he ate, like he had spare room specifically for desserts. "This is definitely my favorite so far though. It's delicious."
