Sentinel

Washington State, USA

October 6th, 2019

"Are you sure this won't be visible?" Sentinel asked. His head was tilted back to give Vyper easier access to his neck, so he couldn't even see what the other man was doing.

"Do you doubt my skills, Sentinel?" Vyper spoke slowly, concentrating on his work. Sentinel felt the brush touch his skin again. "Now stop talking, it's making your throat move."

Sentinel did as he was told, and for the next few minutes the only sound in the room was Vyper mumbling to making noises of concentration as he worked. Finally, Vyper sat back on his stool and set the makeup and brush aside.

"Go ahead and look," Vyper said.

Sentinel dropped his head down and rolled it side to side, trying to loosen up the muscles in his neck. He checked himself in the mirror, checking his neck at every angle. Not only could he not see the bruises, but he couldn't even tell where the his skin ended and the makeup began.

"You're incredible, Vyper," he said.

"I know," Vyper said with a laugh. He tossed Sentinel's shirt to him. "Put that back on and we'll go."

Sentinel shoved his arms into his shirt and buttoned it up while Vyper finished putting up his makeup kit. Vyper grabbed a set of keys off his table and opened the door to his room.

"Heading out, Vyper?" Chesyr asked from where she was stood on the other side of the doorway.

"Jesus, Chesh!" Vyper jumped and put one hand on his chest. "You scared the hell out me."

"I know." Chesyr grinned at him. "Just wanted to make sure you know how easily I can sneak up on you."

"I don't think you have anything to be pissy about, considering how empty my snack pantry is right now." Vyper challenged.

"Those aren't even remotely the same thing." Chesyr said, looking straight into Vyper's eyes. Sentinel felt a chill run down his spine when he realized how serious Chesyr was being. "You keep an eye on him, or you keep both eyes on me. Got it?"

"I've got it Chesyr, you know that. Besides, Fang already okayed this. We're all good."

"I don't care what Fang okayed," Chesyr started, voice still frighteningly even toned. The bandages on her arms had red starting to leak through them, but Sentinel couldn't find his voice to mention it.

"Okay, okay." Vyper held up his hands in surrender. "I promise I'll keep an eye on him. You know that."

"I do." Chesyr got on her tiptoes and gave him a peck on the nose. The fierce look in her eyes had disappeared, and she seemed like her normal happy self. "Just like to make sure. Good luck out there you two!"

Chesyr turned on a dime and walked away. Vyper took a deep breath before turning around to Sentinel.

"I rue the day Fang started teaching her to do that." Vyper laughed, but it sounded almost nervous compared to usual.

"Seems like she picked it up like a champ," Sentinel said, mock shivering. "What's she so worried about, anyway?"

"Just that we're going into town with just you and me." Vyper shrugged before waving for Sentinel to follow him. "She's worried about what could happen."

"She's quite a mama bear with you guys, isn't she?" Sentinel asked as the two of them started down the hall towards the front door. "She was on Fang and Ranger about hurting me while we were training too."
