could feel the other drawing closer to him and Ranger. He had been told once that it was called "situational awareness," and that he was extraordinarily good at it. He could sense the presence and location of other people and animals without having to actually see or hear them. He knew that Ranger was also exceptional at it, so he must have known that they had an audience as well.
That said, they were both a little too engaged to say anything to their audience.
Fang blocked a left hook from Ranger, slamming their wrists together, and countered with a hard jab to his opponent's solar plexus. Ranger moved with the blow, however, robbing it of most of its force. Fang moved in on him, keeping the pressure up so he couldn't catch his breath. He threw several quick punches, with a couple slipping through Ranger's guard and hitting their mark. He tried to follow it up with a kick to Ranger's ribs, but Ranger caught the kick with his left arm. He pushed up, throwing Fang off balance as his he tried to adjust for his lack of flexibility, then hooked his foot around Fang's planted leg and swept it out from under him. Fang hit the ground with the flat of his back and his head, his breath leaving him with a whoosh. Ranger pulled a zip tie out of his pocket and grabbed both of Fang's wrists.
Oh no you don't.
Fang reached up with his legs, hooked his heels under Ranger's armpits, and tossed the other man over him, using his momentum to sit up in the same motion. He scrambled to his feet before Ranger could right himself, launched himself on top of his friend's prone form, and planted his knees on either of his shoulders to keep him pinned. He sat back for a second and took a breath, feeling Ranger do the same as he analyzed the situation.
Fang loved fighting Ranger. Teaching the others to fight was fun, and watching them improve with all the training afterwards was one of the more rewarding aspects of his life, but it got tiresome after a point. Fang himself never got to be tested with any of the others, not at their current level. When he fought with Ranger, they could both fight with almost everything they had. They couldn't go full bore, since that would mean going for the kill, but fights like this were about as close as they got.
It also helped that they fought so differently. Ranger had learned how to fight in the military, from basic training to learning other martial arts from friends and teachers. His skills got sharpened in real world combat, until he was every bit as deadly without a rifle as he was with one. While there was no such thing as a fair fight outside of a ring, and Ranger knew it every bit as well as Fang did, there was still a certain amount of technique and discipline in how he fought.
Fang, on the other hand, had never learned anything more than how to properly tape his hands so he'd stop breaking metacarpals. His skills came from fighting and killing in the real world. Everything he'd picked up was a result of a fight he had won or lost. He had picked up some moves from seeing other people use them over the years, but he had no real technique to them when he used them. He fought like a wild animal, tooth and claw, and that had earned him his name.
The two of them were as close to evenly matched as either of them could hope for, while also being complete opposites. It made it where every one of their matches was a tossup on who would win, and they both enjoyed them immensely when they got to cut loose.
It was for this reason that Fang wasn't surprised when Ranger managed to roll far enough to throw him off. Ranger probably didn't want their fight to end either, and definitely not with him on the losing end. Unfortunately for him, Fang had no intention of losing their first fight that Sentinel got to see. Time to show everyone why he was in charge.
