The day after Veronica announced her and Cheryl were moving up their wedding date.
I sat in an upscale bridal boutique as the brides-to-be searched for some last-minute outfits.
"Why are we here again?"
"I'm here to watch the twins. I don't know why you're here." I said to Jason.
"Aw." He sneered. "Don't pretend you're not glad to see me."
"I haven't forgotten what happened at the company picnic." My eyes narrowed at him. "Or that you tattled to Veronica right after."
Jason frowned. "Can't we let bygones be bygones?"
"No."
"Toni! Toni! Look at Mom!" Casey and Chelsea came running out of the dressing room, followed by Cheryl.
My eyes widened as I took in her beauty. "Wow. Cheryl, you look.. angelic!"

"Yeah, you look really pretty, Mom!" Chelsea beamed.
Cheryl smiled shyly. "Thanks, everyone. I think I'm all set then." She cleared her throat and looked at me. "Hey Toni, can you--"
Veronica suddenly emerged from the back room with a grin. "Good news, everyone! Peter Copping would be thrilled to rush my veil and-" Her eyes landed on Cheryl. "Babe! I'm not supposed to see you until the big day! It's bad luck!"
"Right, right, sorry. I'll go change." Cheryl quickly apologized, making her way back to the dressing room.
"And stay back there until you're told to come out, okay?" Veronica instructed. "I'm going to try on my dress next!"
Cheryl paused, then gave me a long look before disappearing into her changing room again.
I sighed softly, watching her go. I wished we'd gotten the chance to talk last night.. or this morning.. or anytime really.
Once Cheryl left, Veronica followed her into the dressing room area. A few minutes later, she returned grinning from ear to ear as she pulled her hair back into a chic bun and showed off her dress.
