The twins and I boarded the train and settled in our seats. I tried not to smile as I overheard them talking quietly.
"See? I told you she was way cooler than our other nannies." said Chelsea.
"We'll see. Maybe you just got lucky." Casey folded his arm, faintly aloof.
Let's hope our luck continues when we get home and Cheryl doesn't catch us fresh off the subway.
I sighed softly before letting the rush of the subway car lull me into quiet contentment.
. . .
I tried slipping into the penthouse with the twins as quietly as possible but the moment they saw Cheryl, they bolted for the living room.
"Oh my god, Mom. Today was awesome! We went to the park and saw a shooting star and I made a wish!" Chelsea babbled.
"I saw a hologram star implode!" Casey added.
Cheryl smiled sweetly, "Sounds like you had a wonderful time with Toni."
"She's the best!"
"Well, I don't know about all that..." My voice quivered.
"But the best part was when we got to ride the subway home! It. Was. Awesome!"
Cheryl's eyes snapped over to me, her expression darkening as she realised I had broken one of her rules. "Is that so?"
"Wow, look how late it is. We should be heading to bed! Come on, guys!" I hurried the twins down the hall before Cheryl had the chance to respond.
Half an hour later, the siblings were tucked in and it was time to face the music.
Cheryl waited in the kitchen, drumming her fingers against the countertop in the meantime.
"What makes you think you can break my rules, Toni?"
"I don't think that. It was an accident!" I defended.
"It's not any better if you accidentally endanger my children." She yelled.
Despite my best efforts, my heart pumped harder and my voice rose. "It's just the subway, Cheryl. And I made a judgement call. What was I supposed to do? Camp out at the damn park?"
"You could've called me. You can always call me. I would've found a way to get you back home safely."
"Cheryl, we are back home safely." I reached out to touch her arm, but she pulled away and started pacing.
"That's not the point! You could've gotten hurt. You have no idea how much pressure I'm under, Toni." She threw her head into her palms. "The last thing I need to worry about is Chelsea and Casey and you."
I softened. "You were worried about me?"
"Of course I was!" She looked me over with a squint in her eyes. "What, do you think I'm some heartless monster? Maybe this arrangement was too hasty-"
I cut her off, shaking my head repeatedly. "What? No! I don't think you're heartless. If anything, you have too much heart. That's why you're getting so worked up over nothing."
"Nothing?" She started again.
"Yes." I lowered my voice. "You just need to find a different outlet for all that.. passion."
Cheryl stepped closer, her gaze travelled over my face lingering on my lips. "What are you proposing?"
I smirked, my gaze wandering to her lips just inches away. The heat between us intensified. Even without touching, there was a magnetic pull towards her body.
I slinked my fingers around Cheryl's neck, drowning her lips to mine in a kiss. It started long and deep as if we'd been kissing for hours.
Her arms wrapped around me and pulled me close, her touch like a wildfire under my clothes.
My fingers threaded through her hair as my lips parted, tongue tangling with hers until she suddenly pulled away and stepped back, chest heaving.
"Toni-"
"Don't talk.. just feel." I stepped closer, feeling reckless and alive.
Pulling Cheryl against me I braced my palms on the countertop and hoisted myself up, pulling her between my legs.
"Toni, what are you doing to me?" She breathed in a sultry tone.
I caressed her sides softly. "Letting you interview me for another position."
Cheryl's lips crashed against mine. Her hands were all over me in an instant, hugging my curves tight.
We stayed welded together for a minute or two before she pulled away, disheveled and confused.
"We can't do this."
Taking her hand, I delicately kissed a finger, skimming my tongue over the tip.
She whimpered, "Toni..."
"If that's what you want tell me to go to my room and lay down in bed. Tell me not to toss and turn all night long. Tell me not to touch myself, thinking of y--"
Cheryl groaned, collapsing against me and ravaging my mouth with hers. Her tongue danced with mine, pressing herself closer against my body.
When she finally pulled away her natural scent left me feeling dizzy and drunk.
"Say it, Cheryl. I want to hear it. You want me."
Her lust-fogged eyes roved over me and she bit her lip, shaking her head with chagrin.
"I want you."
"How badly?"
"So bad that being this close to you makes me feel like an animal."
I stroked a finger over Cheryl's chest, not stopping until I tugged her chin toward me.
"An animal? You?" My head slightly tilted.
"You have no idea."
My lips found her ear, words moaning with desire, "Then show me." I leaned in for a kiss but paused when I suddenly felt hot and way overdressed.
Swallowing hard, I loosened my top and took Cheryl's hands, guiding them underneath.
The feel of her fingers against me brought my eyes to flutter. "Touch me, Cheryl. Make me feel good."
Her fingertips skated over my breasts and I arched my back, encouraging her hands. They slipped beneath my bra and grazed my taut nipples.
I moaned loudly. "Yes..!"
The loud sound of a cell phone ringing broke through the fog.
"Crap!" The two of us sprung apart and quickly adjusted our clothes and hair.
Cheryl walked over to the counter to check the number and grimaced, "I have to take this."
Just before she grabbed her phone, I managed to make out the name flashing on the screen.
Veronica Lodge.
Right. Her fiancee.
God, Toni.
Cheryl crossed the room towards her office to take the call, her back turned to me.
"Can we talk when you get back?" I asked.
She slowed her pace, letting out a long breath. "I.. I don't think that would be a good idea."
"Can we just-"
"Goodnight, Toni." She shut me off with finality.
I signed and sunk to the floor as Cheryl left the room.
- happy holidays everyone!
