I turned around and blinked. There she was. Cheryl came sprinting through the airport in her wedding dress, Chelsea and Casey just behind.
"Wait for us, Toni!" They called. "We're running.. as fast.. as we can!"
I couldn't believe my eyes. "What's going on? You- You're missing your own wedding!"
"The wedding's cancelled." Cheryl swept me into her arms, leaning in to kiss me.. but paused a breath away, waiting for me to respond.
"You're really here." Tears sprung to my eyes. "I can't believe it."
I closed the distance between us, pouring all of my passion into the kiss. I let my lips fall open, thrilled at the caress of her tongue.
When we finally broke for air, I felt dazed. "I never thought we'd do that again."
Cheryl grinned from ear to ear. "I plan to do that every day for the rest of our lives if you'll let me."
My brows wrinkled. "What do you mean?"
She sighed. "I walked out on Veronica and I'm not going back. Not to any of it".
"But- I thought- I mean.. I passed by the venue on the way here. It was packed."
"When you didn't answer your door last night, I thought I could let you go. I tried to go through with it only because you told me to, but as I stood in the church my heart was pounding like crazy. I realised it wasn't nerves. It was misery." Cheryl reached out and touched my cheek. "It was my gut, begging me to chase after you."
"Wow.. Veronica must be furious right now. You left her at the altar." I giggled despite myself.
Cheryl cringed. "I'm... not proud of that part."
"I am! It was awesome!" Casey snorted. "You should've seen Aunt V's face!"
I chuckled. "Sounds like a good story."
"It was certainly memorable, that's for sure. I'd been trying to--" Cheryl began but Casey cut her short. "Mom, let me tell it! Pleaseeeee?"
She nodded. "Alright, kiddo. This one's all yours."
Casey looked at me expectantly, waiting for my approval with his puppy-dogged eyes.
I nodded and he rejoiced. "Yay! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Okay, so it all started earlier this morning..."
Casey's POV
I stood at the door of the church, trying to remember exactly what I was supposed to do during this thing. "Uh, when am I supposed to start walking again? After Aunt V or Uncle Jason?"
"Weren't you paying attention during rehearsal?" My twin scolded.
"It's not my fault the planner lady was boring! I already know how to walk in a straight line!" I grumbled. "Just.. not when to do it."
"It's fine, Case." Mom kissed the top of my head. "You two follow Grandma and Grandpa down the aisle, but the day-of coordinator will let you know when to start."
I panicked. "Wait, what if I lose the rings?"
"Don't worry, Uncle Jason has the real rings. Just focus on making it down the aisle." Mom said.
"Just because they're fakes does not mean you can swap in an onion ring at the last minute or something. You still have to look perfect for the photographers." Aunt Veronica instructed as she smoothed my tux and adjusted my tie for the hundredth time.
"We know we know, we won't embarrass you." My sister promised.
"Relax, V. The press isn't crawling all over this wedding because of them."Mom muttered.
