You nodded, grateful. For what, exactly? Everything. It seemed as if the puzzle that was your life had finally found all its pieces and those were, one by one, starting to click into place.

You hummed to yourself, slipping a pair of shorts under the dress so you could sit however you liked. Though you had tried on the dress in the store, it still surprised you with how comfortable and soft it was.

Now onto the hair... you thought to yourself. For some reason you had decided to put on your dress before anything else. You thought that order would be nice because then it doesn't mess up your hair but now you thought that maybe strands of hair would get stuck on your dress. There was really no way to win in that situation.

Still, you combed through your hair and decided to let it be as it was since you didn't really know what to do with it and didn't want to bother anyone else.

Should I put on jewelry? you asked yourself as you had gotten some on the previous day. You shrugged. Might as well.

You looked at the box where you had put all your jewelry but through all the shining things, the very bottom one stood out to you.

It was a necklace with a shimmering blue moonstone on a silver chain. It was one of the few pieces of jewelry you had owned previous to the shopping trip. You took it and let it dangle, light shining onto the fingernail-sized stone from the window and making it reflect the colors of the northern lights.

I haven't worn you in a while, you sighed with a smile, putting the necklace on.

You were told, in your first orphanage, that you were wearing the necklace when you showed up, hence you clung onto it with all you had - it was the only sign of any life previous to the orphanages.

At the time it must've been pretty big on you but now it only reached your collarbone, a bit cold against your skin.

"Miss Y/n, the party starts in half an hour."

"Thank you, FRIDAY," you said, looking over at yourself in the mirror.

A knock sounded on the door.

"Yeah?" you asked and in came Natasha Romanoff, makeup products in her hands.

You smiled at the sight. "Sure," you answered the unasked question. "But only a little bit, I'm not a too makeup-y person."

She smiled and a moment later you found yourself sitting down, being instructed to look down, up, left, right...

"There," she said, finishing up. "How do you like it?"

You looked at the girl in the mirror. It was still you. Just more... professional? "I like it, yeah," you nodded, not really having a past experience to compare it with.

"That's good," she nodded. "I'll drop these off at my room and then we can head down to the party," she said, lifting the makeup products up a bit so you could understand that's what she was referring to.

You glanced at the clock. "I thought it wouldn't start for another 15 minutes?"

"Tony's parties can start up to an hour before the said time," Natasha smiled.

"Oh," you let out, not having anything else to say. "See you in a bit, then."

"I like your necklace, by the way," she noted, before walking out the door, her red dress lightly flowing behind her.

You smiled, looking down at your feet that were in a pair of comfy black shoes. "Thanks."
