Chapter 12

"I missed you so much, River." The first thing he said the moment he opened his eyes and answered the call. 

I immediately turn it off my phone so I can't see his face right now. Right when we are both sad and angry on how this world works. For a thousand times, I'm really sorry, Pierre. 


The vacation went off in an instant. Minamaneho ko na ang auto ko pauwi ng Bataan. Matapos kong sumang-ayon sa desisyon ni Daddy, lahat ng bagay na mayroon ako sa Manila ay pinayagan nilang iuwi ko sa Bataan. Susundin ko din naman ang gusto nila kaya siguro ay hinayaan na ako sa mga bagay na ganito. Wala rin akong magagawa dahil sa palagay ko ay mas lalong marami ang titingin sa mg aksyon na ginagawa ko. 

Tomorrow's is the first day of my second semester, but I don't know why there's plenty of student here inside the campus. Maybe it's because of the enrollment, I guess? Naglalakad na ako hatak-hatak ang maleta at suot ang bitbit ang duffle bag ko. I came across some of my teammates and they told me a bad news regarding Thiago. 

"Thiago will not study here anymore, Pierre. He got expelled and we don't know the reason why." Kyle said. 

That sucks, knowing how good a person Thiago is. If I can choose a bestfriend among my teammate, I'll probably choose him. Well, not exactly. Maybe next to Pierre, but he's kind and genuine, lagi nga lang seryoso pero hindi bilang iyon dahil wala naman itong ginagawang masama kahit kanino. Siguro ay wala naman kinalaman ang tatay ko rito dahil hindi naman niya kilala si Thiago. Ibinilin ko lang sa kaniya ito noong nawala sa scholar pero naging ayos naman dahil nakakuha na ito ng bago.

I said goodbye to them after minutes of talking. I drove three hours just to get here that's why I am tired and all I want to do now is to rest. 


Tomorrow came and Coach Galvez held a meeting. I don't know what is it all about, but I don't care. I just want to see Pierre and see how he's been doing. Not that I can't change anything about our situation, but I just miss him. I miss talking to him. I miss his care, his love, his kiss. Everything. 

But I can't do anything about this, Pierre. I will not let myself get into you again. My family is more important.

Nakarating ako na nandoon na lahat ng teammate ko. Hindi ko alam ang gagawin ko sa mga oras na 'yon. Ang alam ko lang ay ang mabilis na tibok ng puso ko dahil sa muli naming pagkikita. I tried to give him a smile, but it did not came out of me. Maybe my body's helping me to do the thing that I shouldn't do. 

Jacob stopped the awkwardness that's surrounding the team. He came to me and said hi that's why all of my teammates did the same thing. Including him. He's the last one to greet me, that's why, I and him are the only people left in the middle of the court. 

"Hey." Aniya.

Tango ang tanging ibinigay ko rito at tuluyan nang puwesto sa upuan para maghintay kila Coach dahil wala naman silang sinabi na may practice kami sa buong araw. Puro tawanan at kuwentuhan lang ang naririnig ko sa kanila habang naghihintay. Ako naman ay nakatahimik lang sa gilid at nakatingin kung saan-saan kaya hindi ko namalayan na nakaupo na pala si Pierre sa tabi ko. 

He put his head on my shoulder and held my hand, but I immediately turn him down for doing that. 

"Stop it." Mahina pero may diin kong sabi. 

"Why? I am your boyfriend. Am I not allowed to do that?" 

"You're not my boyfriend, Pierre." 

Magsasalita pa sana ito nang biglang dumating si Coach kaya wala na itong nagawa pa kung hindi ang tumahimik. 

"I know that the tournament's over, but I will still give you a task. Para hindi kayo kalawangin at nasa kondis'yon pa rin ang mga katawan niyo, I am commanding you to practice for 3hrs twice a week for the rest of the sem. You'll take pictures and send it to me as a part of your documentation. Desisyon namin itong tatlo bilang mga coach niyo kaya naman kahit gusto ko na magpahinga nalang kayo ay hindi ko na ito hahayaan. Bawas trabaho na rin para sa bakasyon ay kahit thrice a week nalang tayo magkita. Ayos ba 'yon?" 

"Yes, Coach!" Sigaw namin lahat. 

"Start next week. Enjoy the rest of the week since I inform you guys late. Seniors, Eric, Henry, at James kayong tatlo na ang magkakasama the rest ay partners na. Dismiss!" 

Fuck. Kung kailan ko siya dapat iwasan ay saka pa kami nalagay sa ganitong pagkakataon. 

"Kyle!" Tawag ko rito. 

"Bakit, bro?" 

"Palit tayo ng partner." 

"Hindi puwede, bro. Sinubukan namin 'yan last time pero hindi pumayag si Coach. Magsama nalang tayong apat minsan sa practice kung gusto mo?" 

"Okay." Umalis na ako sa harap nito at pumunta na sa gamit ko para ayusin ito dahil magsisimula na ang klase ko. 

"Wait, River." Pierre said the moment I went our of the gymnasium. 

"What?" 

"Hatid na kita sa klase mo habang pinag-uusapan natin 'yung schedule ng practice." 

"Ime-message nalang kita. Nagmamadali ako." 

"You blocked me, River. Gusto mo ay mamaya nalang sa dorm mo tayo mag-usap?" 

"I'll unblock you." 

Hindi ko na hinintay pa ang sasabihin nito kaya agad na rin akong umalis. Labag sa loob ko ang ginagawa ko pero wala akong choice, Pierre. 


"My classes will end at three except on Monday and Thursday." I texted him right after lunch came. Kasama ko sila Chloe at ang Kambal na kumakain sa canteen. Nagkukwentuhan lang kami tungkol sa bakasyon nang maalala ko ang dapat na kilangan ko nga palang kausapin si Pierre. 

"Can I call so we can understand each other more?" 

"No. This will do." 

"Alright. I'm only free on Saturday and Wednesday, River." 

"That will do. We'll start next week. Do you have a place to practice? Kahit half court ay ayos na." 

"I'll rent the court of the subdivision on our schedule. Susunduin nalang kita dahil alam kong wala ka pang gaanong alam dito." 

"No, thanks. I can do it myself. I-send mo nalang 'yung location, kaya ko na 'yon. At salitan tayo sa rent, huwag mong akuin lahat." 

"It's fine with me, River. You're my boyfriend." 

"I'll say this again to you, Pierre, dahil mukhang hindi mo ata naintindihan. Hindi mo ako nobyo."  

"Why are you doing this, River?" 

Hindi na ako tumugon matapos no'n. Hindi na rin naman siya nagpadala pa muli ng mensahe kaya hinayaan ko na rin. Sasabihin ko sa'yo ang lahat Pierre kapag kaya ko nang pakawalan ka. Hindi pa sa ngayon, ayoko pa. Hindi ko pa kaya. 

After all my afternoon classes, I never wasted any of time to go with the twins and Chloe because they invited me to some restaurant nearby. I'm so tired of what's happening with my life and I can't keep up with them. My only way to recharge is to spend time with myself. 

And speaking of recharge, I don't think that I'll achieve it right at this moment because Pierre is on my bed sleeping just with his boxer briefs.
