"WHAT the hell were you thinking in there, Liam?" said Mason as the three of them were in a hurry to leave the sheriff station after their talk with Theo. "Promising Theo we'd do everything we can to stop them from bringing Aspen back?! Who the hell are you?"
"You seriously think I meant that?" Liam whispered sharply to the both of them, "He was never going to talk unless he thought he was getting what he wants. Making sure Aspen never makes it out of the hunt was the only think he wanted."
"So you were... tricking him?" said Hayden, relief overcoming both her and Mason that Liam hadn't actually lost his mind.
"Of course I was," Liam said quietly, "I learnt how to control my heartbeat a while ago. You guys should know I'd never do something like that to Scott— Aspen was his friend, she was a friend to all of us, I'm sure of it."
Hayden and Mason began to sigh of relief, pretty impressed with Liam for actually pulling that off, relieved that he hadn't actually agreed to sell out their forgotten friend.
"Damn—you sold that so well you had me thinking you and Theo had a body snatch moment." Mason sighed in relief, "Now come on, we gotta hurry and warn Scott about Douglas."
But suddenly, a Ghost Rider appears, having teleported through a bolt of lightning, and he stood menacingly in the doorway. Mason, Liam, and Hayden were frozen in fear for a long moment, and just as Mason was about to run away, the Ghost Rider cracked his whip, which wrapped itself around Mason's throat.
"No!" Liam cried out in objection."Liam, run!" Mason yelled, knowing it was too late for him to even try any escape.
The Ghost Rider yanked on the whip, causing Mason to be disappear in a cloud of green smoke. Furious, Liam partially transformed with his claws, fangs, and glowing gold eyes, roaring at the Ghost Rider before he leaped toward him.
"Liam!" Hayden cried out, "We have to get to Scott!"
Just as Liam and Hayden were about to stop fighting and run to warn Scott, the Ghost Rider cracked his whip and wrapped it around Hayden's left wrist, much to Liam's horror. Liam and Hayden both grab onto the whip so the Rider couldn't use it to capture Hayden, but even together their strength wasn't enough to do anything but slow him down.
The two were almost close to breaking his hold when another Ghost Rider appeared, having ridden the lightning into the station, and pulled his own whip out to hit Liam. However, Hayden reached her hand out to protect him, causing the whip to wrap around her right wrist as well, causing both Ghost Riders to yank on her arms from either side. Liam used all of his strength to keep them from capturing Hayden, too, but after a moment, Hayden realised its futile and makes the decision to sacrifice herself so Liam could warn Scott and save everyone.
