034. I DON'T WANT TO
DIE LIKE THIS
AFTER acting as successful decoys to lure the hunters, Liam and Aspen got away from the exposed, natural roof of the Argent's armoury and went to find the others."The thermite charges will take care of the weapons," Chris spoke to Scott and Aspen, as the others were intended to go with Chris and Lydia incase the coast was not clear for them to get to the control room. "The two of you, just make sure you're clear before they detonate, okay?"
"Got it." Aspen nodded, her and Scott taking off in the other direction hat Chris led the in. Before Scott moved around the corner, Aspen held out her arm to grab his stopping him, anxiety bubbling up into her stomach again.
"Stop," Aspen said to Scott, "There's someone there."
Scott sent her a thankful nod for the warning, before taking off and knocking down the man with the gun before the hunter could react. He didn't hurt him permanently, just enough to knock him out so he was no longer an issue.
Aspen quickly followed after, the two of them running to the door at the end of the hall.
It beeped open thanks to the others in the control rooms who had figured out the precautions, and Scott and Aspen entered the storage room where the weapons should've been.Should've—because all the shelves were stripped bare. Empty. Not even so much as a crossbow in sight.
"What the..." Aspen murmured, her eyebrows furrowing as she looked around.
Scott turned to look at her, his eyes wide with realisation— "They knew we were coming..."
"Guys—" they heard Argent's voice through the intercom, "get out of there, now!"
"He's right, let's go." Aspen nodded, slightly panicked, "Before they all get back."
Aspen then tried to grab Scott's arm to get out of there together, but he was stationary, refusing to go anywhere just yet as he held a weird look on his face.
"What?" Aspen asked.
"The scent," Scott replied, staring at another closed door.
Aspen turned to look at the door too, now paying attention to her heightened senses to see what Scott was on about, until she smelt it too.
"It's Jiang and Tierney..." she murmured, her eyebrows pinching together.
Something about that felt wrong to her, but Aspen had so much on her mind lately everything started to mush together, and she couldn't put her finger on it.
Scott walked over to the door that the scent was coming from, as Aspen hung back in hesitation, racking her brain. Scott slowly held his arms out to the handle, and struggled to open it by himself.
