ASPEN AND SCOTT arrived at the shipyard that Deucalion told them to meet at. It was filled with large steel shipping containers, lit by large overhead lights. Unbeknownst to either of the duo, Deucalion was standing on one of the tallest steel stacks with his cane in his hand.

Just as Scott and Aspen turned to glance at each other, not knowing to expect or why they were sent here, Deucalion suddenly slammed the tip of his cane to the roof of the container, causing a ripple of loud sound waves in the pair's direction.

As Scott and Aspen span around, Aspen murmured to Scott— "Trust him to make a dramatic entrance..."

"Do either of you know the term for what I'm doing?" Deucalion called out to them.

"Echolocation." Scott replied.

Deucalion appeared impressed, "You did your homework."

"I looked a few things up..." said Scott.

Deucalion's tone became serious as he continued, "I know you think you can learn in just one day what took me years to master."

"Maybe just a textbook summary?" Aspen replied to her father with a shrug.

"Or anything that can help us fight the Anuk-ite without looking at it." Scott added.

"Fighting blind is one thing—you haven't even learned to walk yet." said Deucalion, "An orientation in mobility training specialists has to practice blindfolded with a white cane for at least one hundred and twenty hours before becoming certified!"

Aspen and Scott glanced at each other with alarm.

" I can't teach you to walk and fight in less than twenty-four." Deucalion added.

"Look, we know the odds are bad, but Gerard and Johnathon have got an army." Scott explained, "There's a creature that can scare ordinary people into becoming killers."

"A creature now capable of killing you with just a look..." Deucalion replied, "You saw them, didn't you?"

"We saw people turned to stone." Aspen replied, "And personally, I'd rather not end up that way."

"So why aren't all of you running for your lives?"

"Because we don't run." Scott replied, almost insulted at the suggestion of running.

Deucalion smirked with amusement and pride, giving Scott a nod, "Now that sounds like an Alpha. Let's get started."

About an hour after Scott and Aspen had snuck out in the middle of the night, Malia and Isaac had woken up to find the pair of them gone.

"Where the hell are they?" Isaac said as he frantically looked around the kitchen downstairs while Malia was stood by the couch in one of his large t-shirts.
