028. A HUNTER'S FIRST FULL MOON
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN, YOU'LL HELP ME IF I HELP YOU?" River was baffled as he stood in front of the brunette in some stranger's college bathroom."Just got a call from Scott," Aspen said, arms crossed over her chest, "Apparently there's a high chance your father's back in Beacon Hills."
All the colour from River's face vanished as he paled. The last time he saw his father was just over a month ago, when he and his parents were in Connecticut. They hadn't stayed in any place for longer than a couple months ever since Raven got arrested and Aspen basically exiled them from Beacon Hills. River had gotten bitten only two days ago, but he hadn't seen his father in far longer than that. The thought of seeing the man again terrified him—now that he was about to become a part of the species he swore to hunt.
"My dad's in Beacon Hills?" River's voice came out as a shock-filled whisper. He didn't think any of them would ever go back there.
"We think so." Aspen shrugged with a sigh, "We know Gerard is, and he's not working alone."
"My dad hates Gerard," River's brows furrowed, "Saying the word 'grandpa' was basically a capital offence growing up—"
"Common enemies make for unexpected alliances, River." Aspen said bluntly.
River ran a hand through his brown locks in distress— which were a lot longer now since the last time Aspen had crossed paths with him.
"Okay, well— if he's in Beacon Hills, I need to be as far away from there as possible—"
"Let me stop you right there." Aspen interrupted, holding out her palm to silence him. "You need my help tonight—and I'm willing to help get you through your first full moon, but only if there's something in it for me. I'm nice, but I'm not that nice."
"What could I possibly do that would be of any help to you?"
"Something you've done before," Aspen said coldly, raising an eyebrow as she glared, her mind reminiscing back to what he did to her a year ago. "Something you did pretty well, I might add—
You're gonna play double agent."
—
Aspen had managed to make a swift exit from the party, sending an apology text to Jo for bailing on the party, telling her something important came up and that she'd see her back in the dorm later. She'd also managed to drag River's ass out into some woods just outside the college campus, which thanks to countless amount of frat parties being held that night—was empty of any innocent students lying around.
While it was a strange and slightly embarrassing experience having to walk into a hardware store and ask the cashier for the longest, strongest metal chains they had, she got it done. While it would've brought her immense pleasure to watch River spiral and go through hell on his first full moon, getting the karma he deserved—he had raised a very valid point that had gotten to her.
