"Why isn't this thing reaching them anymore!" yelled Lucas as he stood at the edge of the water, eyes fixed on where Ann had just gone under. "Dustin, do something!"

"I'm trying, okay!" the shorter boy snapped back, trying to take out the batteries in the walkie and jam them back in. "Guys! Ann's gone! She's in the water! Ann's in the water!"

"They're not getting it!" max stressed, holding the wire to her tape player really tight "What if something happens to her!"

"We just have to wait, I think." Lucas said, calming down "I'm sure Ann's going to be fine, she knows how to swim I think."

"Yeah, they'll find her. Steve's a lifeguard so, he could save her if anything were to happen." Dustin added, trying to find reasons to stay calm "Hey, is he taking off his shirt?"

Lucas brought the binoculars up to his eyes and stared at the boat for a couple of seconds, before letting out a groan "When'd Steve get so hairy?"

"Right?" Dustin exclaimed, "I keep telling him he needs to tame that jungle, but he claims the ladies dig it."

"Let me see," said max, taking the binoculars from Lucas and staring at Steve.

On the boat, Steve was getting ready to jump.

"Hey," Eddie said, staring at the other guy. "Good luck"

Steve took the flashlight from Eddie's hand and nodded," Thanks".

Behind him, he could hear Robin pluck a cigarette from Eddie's mouth, but just as he was about to jump, Nancy called out his name.

"Steve," the girl said, taking a long glance at him. "Be careful" she uttered with a reassuring smile.

Steve took one last deep breath and dove headfirst into the water, flashlight illuminating the water around him. As he sawm further and further deep into the water, the light got dimmer. Until the people still on the boat couldn't see him anymore.

"Where we at, Wheeler?" robin asked, voice slightly wavering.

"Closing in on a minute," the girl replied, staring at the water.

Steve suddenly reappeared, disrupting the silence and scaring everyone on the boat.

"Oh Christ!" Eddie yelled as robin grabbed the walkie to update the kids

"I found it." Steve panted, grabbing onto the boat "Gate's pretty big, smaller than the mama gate, still pretty damn big."

"Is it-" robin stared asking when Steve cut her off, trying to grab higher up onto the boat.

"But we have a problem, An-" before Steve could even say anything else, something pulled him under the water too, and Eddie rushed to the other side of the boat as everyone clamoured.

"Did he just say Ann?" Eddie yelled, grabbing the walkie talkie from robin's lap, "Henderson, let me talk to Ann now." But the line only screeched incomprehensible stuff back to him.

"Steve!" Nancy exclaimed as he came up once again, looking down at his feet fearfully, before he got pulled under once more.

"No! No!" Eddie exclaimed as everyone called out the boy's name again. "What the hell was that, man?" he continued exclaiming.

"Nancy, really, what happened?" robin asked loudly, voice hoarse.

Nancy ignored the other two and stood up, looking at the water Steve had just gone into and put a foot up on the edge of the boat.

"Wait, wait wait." Eddie called out, putting a hand in front of Nancey "You're going in there, aren't you?"

"Just wait here!" she told them before diving into the water too.

"Goddamn it!"

Robin slowly slid towards the same edge of the boat and pulled herself up, sitting on the ledge.

"No, no, no, no, no, no." Eddie uttered, "what are you doing? She said wait" he reminded her.

"Yeah, I heard her." Robin calmly replied

"She's in charge!" the boy exclaimed, putting a finger up and pointing it at where Nancy just jumped.

"Are you kidding me? I made that shit up." robin retorted before pinching her nose and letting herself fall backwards into the water.

"don't you go don't you- goddamn it!" he yelled after robin had dived too, letting a string of curses fall from his mouth. "Oh, this is so stupid, this is so stupid, so stupid. Shit, shit shit!" he screamed as he also fell into the water and swam towards the gate.
