Everyone started calming down as Steve flung the bat around, slamming it on the ground a couple of times.
Nancy, Robin and Eddie watched in apprehension as Steve stepped on it and tore it in half, panting. Blood dripped down his mouth as he looked around, panicked.
"Steve!" Nancy said, running to his side.
"Jesus!" Eddie exclaimed, throwing his paddle to the ground, "Jesus H. Christ!"
Everybody looked at Steve, who'd almost died a couple of seconds ago. But he was still confused, looking around and as Nancy inspected him, asking him questions, he pointed to Eddie.
"You're hurt" remarked Nancy, looking at the bites left from the bats. "Does it hurt?"
"Eddie" Steve said, voice hoarse, "Boat, Ann"
"Are you okay man, what are you saying?" Eddie said, looking at Steve who was still pointing towards the boat behind Eddie. "Boat what?"
"Ann." Robin whispered; brows furrowed "Ann's in the boat?"
Eddie started running to the boat the second the girl's name left robin's lips, and the dread he was feeling could be seen on his face. He'd just remembered what Steve had said before getting pulled into the water
Inside the boat, was an unconscious Ann, vines wrapped all over her.
"Shit! Ann!" Eddie yelled, ripping the vines off with all his might. "Ann! Wake up!"
"Ann's in there?" asked Nancy, who was tending to Steve's wounds.
"Yeah! She's covered in vines!" he yelled back, trying to rip enough to set the girl free. "she's also unconscious!"
"Shit!" Exclaimed robin, running to Eddie's side "these need to go!"
"Of course, they need to fucking go! she can't breathe dumbass!" Eddie said, starting to panic even more than before. "Jesus Fuck!"
With both ripping the vines off, Eddie was able to lift Ann up and brough her near Nancy and Steve, placing her down on the ground as gently as he could.
"She's not breathing" said Nancy as she tried to take her pulse.
"What do we do now?" asked robin, tears streaming down her face.
"Chest compressions." said Steve, waddling over to her chest and readying his hands over her ribcage. "Eddie, we have to get her to breathe on her own. You need to put air into her lungs."
"I need to what?" he said, hand still under the blonde's neck, gently supporting it. "Do I-"
"Just do it!" robin yelled at him, pointing to the girl.
Eddie took a deep breath and lowered himself to Ann's level, opening her airway and blowing all the air into her mouth. Steve waited for a couple of seconds before he started compressing her lungs, counting as he pressed.
All four waited for a couple of seconds after Steve stopped doing compressions, watching if the girl would start breathing on her own, but nothing happened.
"Again!" said Steve, looking at Eddie. "Do it twice now, though."
Before he could even take a deep breath in, Ann's chest started rising on his own, and you could hear her take laboured breaths in.
Everyone let out relieved exhales and looked at the blonde girl, still unconscious but now breathing.
"How did she get in here? We left her with the kids." asked Nancy, who got up at the same time to look around.
"It was stupid of us to assume she'd just stay there." Replied robin. "She's a good swimmer, she probably swam."
"She went through the gate before me." Steve told the rest of the teenagers. "I was dragged here, and she was already looking around."
"I told her to stay on shore." Eddie muttered under his breath, heart still racing.
From afar, more bats could be heard screeching, and as they looked towards all the commotion, a dozen bats could be seen making their way over.
"There's not that many, right?" Steve questioned as the bats all dove towards the gate, as if they were guarding it.
"We could take them, right?" robin uttered.
At the same time, lightning stroke and a whole swarm could be seen in the distance.
Eddie grabbed Ann, sitting her up as he looked at the swarm of bats in the sky, frantically trying to wake her up again.
"You were saying?" deadpanned Steve, looking up at the duo.
"We have to go" said Nancy, looking back and forth between the sky and the girl on the ground.
"I'll carry Ann." Replied Eddie, grabbing the girl's arm.
The group of bats collectively screeched another time, and the group took a couple of steps back as Eddie struggled to put the unconscious girl on his back.
"The woods!" suddenly exclaimed Nancy, looking towards all the trees. "Let's go!"
"Great!" sarcastically said Robin, who played with her flashlights before helping Eddie place Ann on his back, running behind him to make sure she wouldn't fall off. "More running."
