"Nelson!" I screamed out of excitement.
I basically leaped off the last step, and threw myself into his arms, attacking him with a huge bear hug. I squeezed him tight, and he squeezed back tighter. I shut my eyes wishing and hoping that he could just stay for a day longer. I never said a thing about missing him to his face because it would be extremely selfish of me to put myself first along his journey into college.
"I can't breathe!" I struggled.
He let go of me with a smile, and I smiled back. It took about three seconds for my smile to be replaced by an upset frown. I made a fist with one hand, and threw it across his shoulder, hitting him with a thud. Nelson flinched in pain, and covered his newly bruised patch of skin.
"What was that for?" He yelled.
"For leaving!" I stuck out my tongue, and all he did was laugh. "It's not funny." I crossed my arms.
"Cheer up, Ly! That's why I came back today." He ruffled my hair with one hand.
I trailed him into the kitchen. "But you're still leaving after tonight."
"It's college, Ly. You knew this was going to happen sooner or later." He took a seat on a stool by the counter. "You're making too big a deal of this."
I walked over, standing across from him, the counter separating us. "I have the right to make a big deal of this. You're my only sibling! Who else am I gonna annoy at seven in the morning?"
Nelson's joyous laughter rang through the kitchen. "What about our neighbour?"
"Wha-"
"You know, the one you've been flirting with recently?" A look of shock spread across my face.
"First of all, I am not flirting!"
"Whatever you say, Ly." He gave me a smirk of disbelief.
"I wouldn-" I narrowed my eyes. "That's not the point."
"Then what is?" I can't believe I'm actually going to miss this bickering.
I raised an eyebrow. "How do you know?"
"I'm a ninja." He karate chopped the air in front of me.
I rolled my eyes at my sudden realization. "Kyan told you, didn't she?" All I received in return was a shrug. "She did?" I exclaimed.
"She has a big mouth!" He followed his next statement with a cheeky smile. "She also has a big 'thing' for me."
I shuddered hearing Nelson say those words. "I'm going to have to kill her."
"Where's mom and dad?" He quickly changed the subject, hoping that Kyan wouldn't get in trouble.
"Their flight landed a couple minutes ago, they should be here soon." I glanced at the clock to verify what I had just said.
"What's for dinner?" He had gone to the fridge to pour himself a glass of cold water.
I turned around, the look of shock demonstrated itself once more. "Was I supposed to cook something?"
"Seeing as you're the only person in the house and the dinner was arranged here..." He trailed off. "Yes. You were supposed to cook." He reclaimed his stool.
"Shit." I looked up at him for help. "Mom and dad are never going to let me hear the end of this."
He chuckled. "They'll be bringing this up at your wedding, for sure."
"Don't stand there making jokes! Help me!" I yelled at him
"I am not standing here and making jokes." He sulked. "I'm sitting here and making jokes." He raised his glass and laughed at his own little joke.
