"Have you talked to him yet?"
"Nope. Six missed calls and 14 texts since last night."
"Does that mean you're still mad at him?"
"I don't know." I admitted.
"But you're not answering his calls or replying to his messages?" I could practically see the confusion in Kyan's voice.
"I mean--" A groan pushed through my teeth as I sat down on the edge of my desk, staring at the door across me. "Last night I wanted to strangle him when he didn't show up but since I was with you and Tony, it wasn't that lousy of a night. Don't get me wrong I was really dreading it at first, mostly because I thought you two were no fun together, but I was really wrong about that. I actually had a great time with you two."
"Okay, I'm choosing to ignore the fact that you thought Tony and I would be boring."
"Kee--" My eyes shut as I laughed at my filter-less mouth.
"The damage is done." Kyan held her composure although I knew she found this funny as well.
"I thought you were choosing to ignore it?"
"But still," She talked over me. "I think it's pretty weird that Dylan didn't show up. He did know about the date right?"
I nodded my head, more for my sake since she couldn't see me over the phone. "Well yeah, he was there when you planned it." I shifted my position as I leaned back against the wall. "Plus he mentioned it a couple times over the week."
A stillness came over the line as neither of us spoke, wondering what could have been the explanation behind Dylan's no show. "Do you want to talk to him?"
"Does Tony know anything?" I asked, choosing another question to replace my lack of an answer.
After a moment of hesitation on her end, she gave me a response. "Dylan called him last night but Tony didn't want to hear his excuse until he straightened it out with you first."
"Tony really is something."
"He just doesn't want to be in the middle of all this, Ly." She defended.
To which I furrowed my brows. "I didn't mean it in a bad way, Kee." I imitated her tone.
"Oh."
During the moments that rushed by with an absence of sound, I brought myself back to the previous night. Dylan hadn't shown up for the double date with my best friend and her boyfriend. Admittedly, I was infuriated at first, especially since he didn't call to tell me, but then I realized how childish it would be to stay mad at him for this. Aside from the fact that this was such a minor issue, I got to see my neighbour every single day. On the bright side; I got to know Tony better. I used to think that he was just a pretty package but flying solo last night woke me up to how caring and funny he is. Not to mention the priceless look on Kyan's face once the embarrassing stories about her began to cascade from my lips like a waterfall.
"So are you planning on talking to him anytime soon?" The shadow of a smile dropped from my face.
I approached my bedroom door, opening it then walking past as I headed towards the bottom of the staircase. "If he calls again, yeah."
"That's good! I don't know h-- shit." Her voice went from enthusiastic to drastic in a snap. "I have to go. I'll talk to you later."
I dropped my arm, lightly tossing my phone onto the dinner table with an exhausted breath. One hand rested on my hip, the other on the back of a dining room chair, as I stared at my phone in deep thought. I wasn't mad, so why didn't I want to pick up the phone when Dylan called?
