He sits under the cherry blossom tree.

The shade of the tree protects him from the sunlight shining from the sun. Pink petals descend slowly, as light as a feather, scattered by the wind. A few petals land on his hair, but he did not take notice, nor did he care if he noticed. He hums quietly, his attention on the polaroid on his lap.

It was late March, just around the time where cherry blossoms bloomed. School had just ended 20 minutes ago and now, Jungwon was taking comfort from the shade of the tree.

Anyone who didn't know him well wouldn't notice anything wrong with him. Jungwon could hold up a pretty good fake smile that seemed genuine, but anyone who took a second glance would know for sure that he was not okay.

He was trying his best, but it was so hard to forget her when they had made so many memories at this school, too many to count. It was driving him crazy. Everywhere he looked, a memory of them flooded his mind. Every time he stepped into a room, Jungwon was greeted with memories of her hugging him tightly and talking to him. Who was he kidding, he could never forget her.

They had made memories here. Right under the same tree, just a year ago. He was in the exact place where he handed his heart to her willingly. And she had accepted it. Jungwon delicately traces the outline of the photo with his index finger. Unconsciously, he smiles at the memory before frowning. They have been so happy at that time. Where did they go wrong to deserve this?

He sighs and a small tear escapes his eyes. What wouldn't he give to just hear her voice one last time. Jungwon closes his eyes, trying to shut it out. His longing. His wishing. His lasting regret to not make the best of their time together. It was futile to imagine, she was gone and he'll never get the chance to tell her how much he loves her.

One year ago

Jungwon stared at his phone, waiting for her reply. He clutched the roses he had got for her. Only one thought was in his mind: please say yes.

The 3 dots loaded. She was replying back! He nervously tapped his foot and gulped. What would she say? Would she reject him?

Sakura
Sure, just give me a few minutes. I'll be there soon!

Jungwon pumped his fist in the air. He grinned. Yes! Finally, things were going his way. Now all he needed to do was summon his courage to confess to her.

Behind the cherry blossom tree, Jungwon watched her approach the spot he had asked her to go to. He took a deep breath and swallowed a big gulp of air. Now was not the time to be a coward, he scolded himself.

With trepidation, Jungwon stepped out of the tree's shadow, a nervous smile on his face. He hid the bouquet behind his back and shifted foot to foot. His heartbeat raced as Sakura got closer and closer.

"Hey, Jungwon," she greeted, a smile upon her lips. "You wanted to meet here?"

He scratched his head shyly. "Y-yeah. I hope that I didn't disrupt you from doing something important..." he mumbled.

Her laugh echoed in his ears. "Of course not! I was just talking to Mina at my locker. Nothing important." she assured him. Sakura tilted her head. "Why did you ask me to come here?"

"Isn't the cherry blossom tree beautiful?" Jungwon blurted before turning red. He mentally slapped himself. He shouldn't start his confession like that...
