What are
happy facades and
mere moments of calm
against the
cruel fate of
undeniable reality?
Lies could only
so long
in the face of
fate.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Summer break had commenced, which gave Sunoo a lot more time to fuss over Giselle.
Honestly, she appreciated it, but she felt that it was a bit too much. She wanted to live her life normally before the end, but Giselle knew what Sunoo was coming from.
Today, he had decided to bring her out to the movie theater with the doctor's permission.
In the lobby where the snacks were, she could feel the burns of the stares people gave her, most likely because of her sickly appearance, but Giselle didn't let that dissuade her.
They were watching Avatar, a movie she had never heard of, but apparently it was quite popular and well known.
"What snack do you want?" Sunoo asks, his eyes glued to the display.
Honestly, Giselle didn't really want any snacks. They had eaten lunch earlier, but she shrugs, "Buttered popcorn I guess."
"One large bucket of buttered popcorn, one blue raspberry icee, and a bag of Hi-Chews please," Sunoo calls to the vendor. He nods and in no time, has their order done.
She felt obligated to pay. "I'll treat you this time." Giselle steps forward and hands the vendor a wad of cash.
Her friend frowns. "Giselle-"
"Ddeonu, you already treated me to lunch. Please? You don't need to pamper me because I'm sick," she says gently.
He hesitates before nodding, "Only this time though."
Once they got their snacks, they went into the theater, chatting a bit, until the movie started.
During the first minutes of the movie, Giselle felt her eyelids get heavy before fluttering close. She rubbed her eyes, struggling to keep them open. Recently, she had started to become more tired than usual, even everyday things started to exhaust her. She supposed it was related to her condition.
She feels a gentle prod on her shoulder. "Are you okay?" Sunoo murmurs quietly in her ear, careful to not disturb anyone watching the movie.
She shoots him a small smile. "I'm okay," she answers reassuringly, "Just a bit tired."
"Are you sure?" he inquires anxiously, "We can leave if you want to."
His overwhelming concern touched him. "Really, I'm fine."
She wasn't about to waste the money he had spent for the tickets and effort he had made for her.
Sunoo glances at her skeptically. "If you say so."
Throughout the movie, the two share small, ushered talk, not wanting to ruin the movie. And at one point, when Giselle attempts to talk to Sunoo, she finds him well asleep with an angelic smile on his face.
She smiles at his cuteness. How she wished it could always be like this.
But this was her fate, merely one memory to the end.
