What if
the story didn't have to end this way?
What if
there had been a way
without all this pain and suffering?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A knock was heard at the door.
Giselle closes her notebook shut and gently sets it aside on the night table beside her cot. "Come in," she croaks, her voice sore.
A concerned Sunoo peeped through the door. He had been endlessly watching over her, making sure she was fine ever, since she had told him.
She didn't really want him to waste his time on a dying soul, but he refused to leave.
"I got us some tteokbokki." he says softly, coming inside the room, gingerly sitting on the edge of the hospital cot. He places the plastic bag on the ground and takes out the container that held the tteokbokki. "Are you feeling okay?"
"Never been better." she says jokingly, before coughing.
A crease appeared on his brow, "Get some rest." he advises worriedly. Sunoo tugs her blanket, "Did you take your medication?"
Giselle waves it away. "How was your day?" she asks, changing the topic.
It worked. She loved how Sunoo's face lit up as he began telling her another retell of something that had happened.
"So today, I went to this-"
Listening carefully and attentively, she nods at times when he starts ranting. Giselle didn't have much of an appetite lately, but she politely nibbles on the tteokbokki.
When Sunoo had finished with his story, they sat in silence for what seemed like years before Giselle calls his name, "Sunoo?"
He looks up at her. "Hm?" he answers lazily, swallowing the food.
She felt a smile spread across her face, although she had felt a pang at the fact she had burdened him with her secret that she made him promise to keep from his best friend.
"Thank you for being here for me."
