It was Sunoo's idea.
A day earlier, he had suggested that they go to an amusement park.
"We should go to an amusement park!" he exclaimed once everyone was sitting at the lunch table. And of course, everyone had agreed. Except Giselle, who was reluctant to go because... you know.
She shook her head, "I'll pass," she said, causing everyone to look at her.
Sunoo, who was sitting right next to her, suddenly looked guilty, coming to realization. He lowers his voice, "Is it because of your condition?" he whispered, cupping her left ear. He earns a nod from Giselle and suggests quietly, "We can always go somewhere else. You're part of our group now."
Her heart warms up. Everyone should have a Kim Sunoo in their lives. He could be very sassy at times, but he was always understanding. Not wanting to spoil the fun, she leans towards him, "It'll probably be fine, I'll just bring my inhaler and not ride on any high rides. Doubtful that I'll feel a surge of strong emotion that way," she concludes.
"Are you sure? I don't want to pressure you to-"
"Yah! What's all the whispering about?" Jay raises an eyebrow, making random gestures with his chopsticks, "Are you two having a private conversation about something?"
The boy beside Giselle coughs, "Nothing, just trying to convince her to go. She has a lot of homework to do, but I persuaded her to do it on Sunday," he lies smoothly, shooting Giselle a wink. I got you.
And that was how the group was standing in the middle of an amusement park.
Giselle looks up to the Ferris Wheel, admiring its slow rotation, the multicolored pods reflecting off the light from the sun. Usually, she was afraid of heights, but somehow, the ride gave off a calming aura. She made note to ride it later in the day.
"So..." Jake starts with his Australian accent, "What do we do first?" he asks, gesturing to the various tents, food stalls, and rides.
Sunoo squints his eyes at him, "Is that even a question?" he asks, "We eat, obviously."
He starts into the direction of the food stall section when he's pulled back. "Not so fast, Sunoo," Heeseung says, grabbing Sunoo by the shirt, "If we eat too early and get on the rides, we're all going to throw up."
The latter pouts. Noticing Sunoo staring sadly at the stalls, Ni-ki clears his throat, "Maybe we can start the carnival games first?" he suggests.
Sunghoon wrinkles his nose, "This early? Aren't games supposed to be like in the afternoon?" he says, only for Ni-ki to scowl at him. He backtracked quickly, "Fine, sure, let's start with games."
The group heads towards the game booths. "I want to try this one," Jake points to the dart throwing game, "Sunghoon?"
"Sure."
After paying the price to play the game, the booth worker handed each of them 5 darts, "Each color of the balloon is worth a different amount of points. The point value per color is over there," he instructs, pointing to a sign hanging from the booth.
The two nodded, "I'll go first," Jake says, aiming carefully. Eyes focused, he threw the red dart at the board. It hit a red balloon, which was unfortunately only worth one point.
"My turn," Poised, Sunghoon picks up a blue dart and without hesitation, aims for a purple balloon. The dart swiftly embedded itself in the target, releasing a large pop.
