𝐃𝐀𝐑𝐊 𝐑𝐄𝐃 | CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE
( UNSUPERVISED)
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━AFTER WANDA HAD walked off, Atlas soon did the same. He did a lap of the room, mentally taking a note of all the guards who were dotted around.
It was actually quite funny to him when he thought about it. Because HYDRA believed they were being secretive, that they were concealing their true identity well. But that was far from the case. He could've picked them out of any line-up.
Idiots.
"I count three." Atlas discreetly spoke into the comm.
"Five." Kate replied. "Two more up top, near the balcony."
"Six, actually." Sam corrected. "One outside on the balcony."
"Well don't show off about it." Kate huffed.
"Seven." Wanda added. "Next to me at the bar."
Atlas looked over his shoulder, watching as Wanda seated herself down at the bar next to the guard and ordered herself a drink.
His face stiffened at the sight of the man pretty much devouring Wanda with his eyes, not being subtle about it at all.
The HYDRA guard shuffled closer and picked up a conversation with Wanda, who for the sake of the mission had to act polite and engage. She was smiling, laughing along with the things he was saying, not recoiling away when he placed his hand on her arm.
Atlas knew damn well that it was all a ruse. Even from afar he could see her tense demeanour.
Yet his face still scrunched as he looked at the man. Everything about him practically made Atlas turn his nose up in disgust. His clothes, the tacky jewellery, his wayyyy too gelled up hair.
"You having fun with Greased Lightning over there, Maximoff?" Atlas quipped into the comm device.
Wanda didn't reply, knowing that if she did it would look suspicious to the guard. But when he saw Wanda suddenly laugh, turning her head to the side and passing it off as a cough, Atlas knew that she heard what he said.
And he couldn't help but smile in triumph at her reaction. Because it wasn't fake, not like it was with the guard. It was real.
Atlas turned his attention away from Wanda and continued to glance around the room, his eyes bouncing to the different displays of things that were up for auction. But when he managed to make out a certain person stood by one of the glass cabinets, he paused.
He didn't need to look any longer to recognize who it was. From the pictures and videos he'd seen so far, it was easy to put the name to the face. And if that wasn't enough, the significant burn marks that covered his skin certainly were.
