Chapter 11 - Suspicions

I knew today would be chaotic, but let's rewind

I woke up a little early and decided to start getting ready for school. I went downstairs so I could start making breakfast and surprise Shino and Rikku, when something caught my eye. A note on the table, and Rikku laying on the couch in the strangest most uncomfortable way. Before I decided to wake her up, I went to go read the note

Haven't been feeling well, going to take the day off to clear my head, I should be back tonight

"Well that's odd" I mumble, suddenly I hear a loud snort as Rikku sits up. " morning sleepyhead, how on earth did you end up like that?" I teased as Rikku rubbed her neck, lightly groaning " I don't know, that last thing I remember was watching a movie with Shizu, and I think I must've fell asleep" I give her a look and her face turned crimson " o-ok! I might've f-fallen asleep on their shoulder, but that's nothing! I've seen you and Shino cuddling in the same bed!" She shot back, soon my normally pale face went red

" toshé" I responded, going towards the kitchen to make us Breakfast. " anyway, where is Shizu?" Rikku asked as she sat down at table, I shrugged " maybe they left early just like Shino" I guessed, going back to the breakfast.

Rikku walked over and took the note, looking at it for a while before looking up at me " I hope Shino's alright. is it just me, or has he been acting weird lately?" She questioned, I thought about what she was saying before I too became questionable " yeah, like being distant, not giving the whole story as to where he has been, getting up earlier, what's with that?"

Rikku shook her head doubtfully, " I don't know, but let's start heading to school, we got a busy day at the cafè!" She announced cheerfully and ran downstairs to get her uniform, I laughed and headed up to my room, preparing for the day

Today at school was weird, Shizu, Jack, Blake, Kiyo, and I think a few others were absent. When I asked their roommates, all they said was the same thing I saw this morning, a note saying that they weren't feeling well and wanted to skip today.

Something was up

Finally the end of the day came and I headed to the cafe club, putting on the maid outfit and beginning my shift. Thankfully, today wasn't that busy, but busy enough to keep us on our toes.

Soon everything became quite, only a few customers wrapping up their meals and some paying their checks. I was sitting at one of the tables, talking to Rikku and Yuuto about the disappearance of their dorm mates or friends, " y-yeah, I know that I don't get to s-spend a lot of time at the dorms or at the cafe club these days, but I know for a fact that Kiyo has been acting strange." Yuuto clarified, that seemed to grab my attention " what do you mean?" I ask, Yuuto sits there for a moment, pondering. Finally he speaks up

" w-well, one time we are spending the night at the dorms, and he was having a nightmare. He wouldn't give me the details, only that it involved me getting hurt" he explained.

I tried to put the pieces together, what do Shino, Kiyo, Blake, Jack and Shizu all have in common? They're friends, both have powerful quirks.....

They both have people they want to protect and care for

I came to a realization - what if they were up to something, that they were hiding something big and possibly dangerous, but not wanting us to get hurt, so they wouldn't tell us.

My thoughts were interrupted when someone grabbed my shoulders. I reflexively twisted and punched whoever was behind me in the throat, once I could get a good look at my attacker, I realized that they weren't an attacker, but instead my brother like companion Patron.

" oh my god! Patron I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed, he continued to gag and cough, but also laughed " great reflexes Arty, sorry for sneaking up on ya" I allowed him to sit across from me on the other side of the booth, " Umm Artemis... who's this guy?" Questioned Rikku as she pointed her thumb to Patron, I smiled " This is Patron, the brother like best friend I told you about." I answer, Rikku's face lights up

" so your the famous Patron Carter?! Nice to meet you, I'm Rikku" she exclaimed and stuck her hand out to shake. Patron smiled and shook her hand " nice to meet you Rikku, I have heard a lot about you" he answered, his attention turned to Yuuto " h-hello, I'm Yuuto, good to meet you" he said in a small, shy voice. Patron made a small wave " good to meet you too as well Yuuto"

After we ordered a coffee, and found a bigger booth so we weren't crammed together, we bang to talk, telling stories and laughing at jokes. " wait so what are your quirks?" Patron asked, Rikku spoke up " well, mine is explosion, I can generate large and small explosions. and Yuuto's quirk was originally something called mold, he's basically kind of stretchy, but he prefers not to use his quirk so yeah." She explained, Patron nodded in understandment. " what's your quirk, if you don't mind me asking" Rikku questioned.

Patron sat there for a moment, before finally answering " I have a rare quirk, two actually. My first one is camo, so I can blend into the background of anything, and I can also camouflage another person, just as long as I am touching them. I can also sense my surroundings. I don't have the best eyesight, as you can tell from my eyes, but all my other senses are extremely strong, so I can tell where someone is, and what they are doing in a certain range." He explained

Rikku gasped " cool! The second one sounds similar to what our friend Kiyo can do, just instead he has better eyesight" she connected. For the next few hours, we chat and tell more stories. Soon, the sun is slowly setting as the sky turns gold and orange, reminding me of Shino's hair. Suddenly, the doors to the cafè blast open and Jack comes stumbling in, panting and looking terrified.

" Jack?!" I exclaimed as I rush towards him, he was still panting, his eyes wider than bowling balls, covered in bruises and scratches. " what the heck happened to you?!" I demanded, giving him a glass of water, but he swats it away

" something happened, and it's not good"

My finger is killing me, this is the first time I have ever sprained anything, but to be honest, I expected it to be worse
