Chapter 28 - Time to Finally Say it

Jack's P.O.V

I had never felt so cold and miserable in my life. I wasn't even able to walk or say anything! I couldn't really focus or see my surroundings, but I'm pretty sure Blake and Laura laid me on my bed for some rest.

When I finally came around, I woke to a sharp internal pain in my lungs that made me gasp, but when I looked at the spot, there wasn't a wound or anything. I looked at my bare chest and saw a few heated packs wrapped around my chest and stomach. As I tried to sit up, a voice to my side startled me

" you suffered massive internal bleeding and your blood flow was weak. I tried to warm you up the best I could." I turn to see Blake, watching me with sad, worried eyes, bag under them from lack of sleep and guilt. I shifted myself so I could look at her better. " Blake... what happened, how the heck did I get here?" I asked slowly, she looked away and sighed before answering

" after Frostbite caused you to go into hypothermia and shock, I choked him out. I tried to wake you up, nearly lit you on fire just so you could get your body heat up. But nothing. Your pulse was practically gone Jack, without Laura I don't think you would've made it" she stated, sorrow in her words. Which actually surprised me. She usually keeps her emotions hidden, looking as tough as possible.

Was she really that scared? Was I that close to death?

I tried to lighten the mood " well you can't talk, the same thing happened to you when Flex blew up the lab. He practically drained all of your heat." I argue, but that seems to really piss her off

" Jack, Flex was an old friend of mine and only wanted to scare you, he only hurt me that bad because he knew I could take it and that you could help me. That other guy, wanted to freeze you! He wasn't merciful, he tortured me and my friends and would have killed you! If he did it for another few seconds, you wouldn't be here!" She yelled, her voice starting to break a little. She seemed to realize that she was becoming a bit loud and dialed back, continuing the story

" anyhow, Artemis shadow traveled us away and back to his dorm. Me and Laura to you to your place and tried to fix you up the best we could." She finished. I looked at her with sympathy and empathy at the same time.

" well now you know how I felt, not fun is it?" I ask, with a small hint of teasing, Blake let's our a small laugh, " yeah, it's hard knowing that the person you love is hurt or dying." I chuckled but caught myself

The person you love...

I turn to face her again, shock in my eyes. She met my expression" what?" She asked, clearly blind sighted as to what she just said " you said the person you love.... Did you just say...." She immediately caught on, blushing

" what?! I- uh... well..... I - I mean we've been through a lot together, I thought it was time to finally say it." She mumbles, it's kinda cute.

I sit on the side of the bed,  facing her. I lightly grab the tip of her chin, turning her face to meet mine. " if it makes you feel better, I love you too." I whisper, are faces are rather close now, just centimeters from touching. But after some hesitation, I close the gap. Our lips connect together as we share a long awaited kiss. My heart seems to flutter when I realize that all the fighting I have done, all the hardships and struggles to save her and our friends, have finally paid off.

When we pull apart, Blake gets up and sits on the bed next to me, her head on my shoulder and my arm wrapped around her. She was warm, her body heat seemed to spread to me as I felt myself warm up. I blush a lot harder when I remember that I don't have my shirt on, my heart speaker exposed. But she doesn't seem to mind.

So we just sit there, a sense of serenity and closer between us, knowing that we'll have each other's backs, no matter what.

A bit of a shorter chapter I know, but I was thinking that for the last few chapters, each ship has its own personal chapter for themselves, so things don't get to jumbled up.

I think about 4 - 6 more chapter until it is done! But not to worry, there is a good chance of a sequel.
