Shizu's P.O.V
The images kept flashing in my mind, transitioning like flashes. Me being thrown like a rag doll, Rikku blowing bright like a nuclear bomb, her blood soaked torso, her blank yet painful expression that seemed to be permanently fixed on her face. All of it was just to much.
After Artemis shadow jumped us back home, I immediately took her to Venus, the only person I know that could help. I had to come up with several excuses and avoided questions, but eventually, they attended to Rikku.
I sat there for hours, thinking of the worse.
Did she make it? Was I to late? I should have done more! I'm such a -
After several hours of these thoughts being my only entertainment, Venus came into the waiting room, looking grave. I stood up rather quickly, facing her with all the worry and anxiety that I emitted.
She stood there, starring at me, thinking. Finally, she gave the report
" She's going to be ok. But the damage that was done!...... those wounds were dangerously close to an artery that if punctured, would have caused her to bleed out in seconds. She's very lucky to be alive."
Those words were like the strong arms that picked the weight off my shoulders, but also heart breaking. I hung my head low, guilt and grief in my sad blue eyes.
" could I see her?" I mumbled quietly. Venus looked to her right at the window before answering " yes you can Shizu, but it's not going to be a loving and pretty reunion." She led me down the hallway, passing rooms that were unoccupied and dead silent until coming up to one that was.
I stood at the doorway, frozen in my tracks at the sight. Rikku's form was paler, thinner and less... Rikku like. There was no life, no joy or positivity in her face, just prone and worn out. I slowly shuffled over to the side of her bed to get a better look. Rikku's side was wrapped in so much medial tape, blood slightly seeping through. Her arms were stripped with burns up and down her arms, and her Limodorum hero costume was ashes.
My legs gave out and I fell to my knees, right at the side of her bed. Tears began to fall as I thought, I turned to Venus, softly crying " c-can I t-talk to her....a-alone?" I asked, my voice shaking and breaking. She gave me a sympathetic smile and left the room, closing the door behind her.
I turned back to Rikku, hesitating as to what to do. I thought about my actions, chasing after Shino, abandoning Rikku during our date, causing her and her friends to go through so much effort to get us back. Guilt seemed to inspire words to finally come out as I began to talk to Rikku, even if she couldn't hear me
" hey Rikku, you'll be happy to know that we all made it out. Jack and Artemis got hurt, but I'm pretty sure they're fine, I have no information about Kiyo and Yuuto though. I hope they are ok." I starred at her face, waiting for a response that I knew would never come. I sighed and continued
" but just so you know, I'm sorry. I should have never sneaked off to check out what Shino was doing, I should have never let you go through all that to get me back, I should have been stronger during our fight with Rain but instead-..." my voice began to crumble again as tears threatened to come. I took a deep breath, allowing myself to calm down before I continued
" this is all my fault, that you're in this pain. But when you wake up, I'll be there for you. While you are out, I'm going to make sure that all is well. And Rikku, I love you. I care a lot about you a-and I don't want to see you in pain like this." I stopped to look at her again. Nothing. I looked back at the window and saw that it was getting dark, time to wrap it up.
" please be ok Rikku, you stupid explosive Cuttie." Smiling at the old nickname, I bent down closer to her face, cupping her cheek in my hand as I gave her a kiss on the forehead. I pulled myself up and made my way to the exit.
I made my way down the hallway, passing several rooms until I came up on a different one. This one has the door closed, but a crack still open. Slowly, I creaked it open to poke my head inside. One I got a good look, I could only think of one thing to say.
" oh wow!"
