Chapter 26 - Victory?

Blake's P.O.V

We have been fighting for a while, I would throw some fireballs and burn some soldiers to a crisp, Jack would blast them backwards or cause their eardrums to burst. I'm usually not the kind of person to say this, but we make a good team.

After much fighting, things seemed to slow. The waves of bad guys seemed to deplete and our adrenaline levels eased. Did we win?

I looked over at Jack, who was panting and looking confused. His facial featured mask glowed in disbelief. He then looked towards me, silently asking the same question.

I was overcome with victory and excitement that I pounced onto him, wrapping my arms around his torso and squeezing him in a tight bear hug.

" GAH! OW,OW,OW! PLEAS GET OFF!" He screamed, it took me a second to register that he was in pain. The memory of Jack being barraged by the henchmen piped back into my mind as I realized that he was still injured.

" sorry! Didn't mean to!" I apologized. He was breathing heavily, but waved it off

" it's alright, I think I have a few broken ribs after that crazy attack." He concluded, wincing in pain as he brought his hand to his chest. To make him feel better, I gave him a light kiss on the forehead.

Did we really win?

Shizu's P.O.V

After many hours of fighting by Rikku's side, the soldiers stopped coming. Soon, after taking out a few deserters and last standing soldiers. Everything went silent. I turn to Rikku, who was surprised, relieved, but also unconvinced.

" uhhh Shizu?... did we....?" Her voice was drawn out, doubting the situation. But for me, it made sense. For hours, we have fought wave after wave of armadas and fleets, I'm pretty sure that was all the goons that occupied the area. Something seemed to expand in my chest as a sensation of electricity ran through my limbs

" we did it! We won! Yessss!" I jump up and down with happiness, Rikku soon following in suit. After a little, we calmed down, still taking in the silence in the room. I lean over and give Rikku a kiss on the cheek and wrapped her in another hug.

We embrace for a while, enjoying the feeling of having the one we love the most in our arms and lucky to have survived this whole fiasco.

How wrong and naive I was

Shino's P.O.V

Me and Umbra stood there as silence corrupted the room. All that was heard was our panting. I look to the large ivory haired, sadistic hero, emotions causing tears to brim. He looked back at me, stone cold and no ounce of joy or happiness, nothing.

" what?" He asked when he saw that I was starring. I blush again and quickly turn away, clearing my voice.

" do you think... since this all over...." I sighed, I just wanted to talk to Artemis at the moment, the real one.

" I don't know what you mean ' it's all over,' something isn't right. But what do you need?" He questioned in a grave voice. As much as Arty's hero form or Umbra form is actually rather intimidating and hot, I just wanted my boyfriend back.

I take a deep breath and ask completely " I want to see you.... In your normal form." He looked at me for a moment, starring into my eyes as if reading my mind. He let out a groan and closed his eyes.

The side of his hair began to darken as his form shifted. After a second, he opened his eyes and I was met with the Artemis I know and love. He made eye contact and smiled " hey Shino." He said casually. But I could tell there was more he wanted to say. I smiled back and launched myself at him, embracing him with all the love and anxiety I have had for the past few weeks.

He hugged me back with just as much emotion, I could hear him lightly crying and mumbling to himself, as did I. We had been through so much together, and if I'm being honest, it pained me to be away from him, not knowing if he would be hurt or if he was ok or not.

I pulled away to look into his eyes, his magnificent purple eyes that we once again, filled with the playfulness, joy and twinge of anxiety that made me laugh and love him. I got a better look at him, and that filled me with a different feeling. Guilt.

He was littered with scrapes and cuts, his uniform was dirty and torn as he look just as worn out and tired as I was. His knuckles were red and bruised as I looked around us at the fallen soldiers.

How many did he hurt? How many did he?.....

My thoughts trailed off at the image of Artemis actually killing people. I looked back to him, guilt and grief branded on his looks as he looked at what he did. Apparently he was thinking the same thing I was.

I grabbed his hand, forcing him to look at me, his fear and shocked eyes met mine, he was tense with guilt and actually looked scared. Then something came to my mind.

I was the reason. He and the others went to so far lengths just to get us back, to fix the mess we got ourselves in. We were the reason our friends and loved ones became vigilantes. I was the reason Artemis did all this. I use my other hand and grab his. I look down at my feet for a moment, trying to think before finally coming out

" I'm sorry Artemis. I never meant for all of this to happen, I just wanted to go on one last mission and then renounce my vigilante Buisness. I hated lying to you, but I didn't want you to go into this dangerous of a Buisness too. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if something happened to you on my accou-" I was cut off by Artemis putting his hand on my cheek, my attention now solely on him as he began to speak

" Shino, it's ok. I know why you did all this, you don't have to explain." He answered honestly. I was at a loss for words, I just stammered, But Arty got the message. His face was now closer to me, starring into my eyes, reading my every emotion and thought

" just say to me right now, do you realize what your actions have done? Do you take responsibility? Are you ever going to do this again?" Each question he asked, I either nodded or shook me head. Artemis starred a bit longer at me, thinking. Then, a small, great full smile formed on his lips " then it's all good. Let's just enjoy this small victory" then he did what I never thought he had the courage to do himself. He leaned forward a little more and gave me a kiss.

It was quick, so quick that I didn't even have time to react or kiss back. I was just starring at him, flabbergasted. He let out a small giggle and laid his forehead against mine. I smiled as I felt his arms go around my waist, the warmth sending peace through my system.

My time of joy and serenity was shattered when a heinous laugh echoed through the walls

" did you think it would be that easy?"
