Jack's P.O.V
When Patron, Laura and Yuuto finally returned, it was to dark to discuss their findings, so instead we went our separate ways for the night, to get stuff done. Some of our group was training, some decided to go to bed.

I know Artemis wants us to train so we can be prepared for the battle, but I just need to clear my head for a few hours.

I made my way to my little hideout, old, dusty and messy, but still giving me the sense of calm and serenity that I love in music. Little did I know that I wouldn't be alone

Once in the room, I discovered Laura sitting on one of the stools, strumming one of the guitars. I froze in surprise at her, curious as to what she was doing " hey, you knew that I knew that I discovered this place when I planted the photo there, don't act so surprised" she said, reading my mind. I sigh

" why are you here then?" I ask, I just wanted to be alone so I could get away from our family drama, not have another fight. She smiled, " hey, I know your probably mad at me, but can we at the very least put aside our conflicts for the next few days? We don't know what's gonna happen." She whispered, that was probably the first time I have ever heard her ask for a peaceful approach.

Her attitude always stuck to the whole fighting back and arguing ways. It was kind of strange, hearing her offer a peace treaty. But she had a point, in less than four days, we would attack one of the largest nests of villains this city has ever seen, our survival rate has dwindled down to the lower 30%.

I sigh " ok fine, a peace treaty until this whole scenario is over with." I concluded, she nods and continues to strum the guitar.

After sitting in uncomfortable silence, Laura speaks up, " did you mean all the things you said? When you said I was more than a cousin to you." She asked, curiosity filling her voice. I hum a little before answering " like I said, you were the only one who accepted my destructive, chaotic quirk, and turned it into something else. I didn't have a lot of friends so it made my childhood easier when you became my friend." I answer, sorrow in my words as my mind seems to hear the words of the police officer at my door when he reported what happened to my relatives.

I am suddenly filled with guilt. Why am I the one feeling so dreadful and sad, she went through pain too. Laura had to watch her parents get slaughtered and her home destroyed. I sigh " you know what Laura? I'm sorry, you shouldn't be the one to try and get me to talk, I should be. I may have lost my cousin for almost a decade, but you lost you home, your family. I should be the one there for you." I confess, Laura let's out a breath

" Jack we both lost people we loved on that day. We both have seen trauma, pain, betrayal, anger, basically all the horrors this world has to offer. But hey, we're good now, so let's enjoy the little sliver of peace we can get huh?" She stated, I looked into her eyes, filled with rage, pain, mischief and.... Playfulness?

This is what a sister does, she's there for you, no matter what and you love them unconditionally. Suddenly, anold memory comes to my mind

" hey Laura, remember how we used to love to sing and play music?" I ask her hopefully, she nods " yeah, but there was a song that we loved the most, it was basically a song that represented our relationship right? What was it again?" She asked, I knew exactly what song she was thinking of.

I smile under the mask and pull out my phone, pulling up the lyrics to the song and showing her. After a few seconds, Laura's face lights up brighter than a Christmas tree and she turns her attention to the guitar, playing the sound of the music as I begin to sing the lyrics

( Brother by Kodaline)

When we were young we were the ones
The kings and queens oh yeah, we ruled the world
We smoked cigarettes, man, no regrets
Wish I could relive every single word
We've taken different paths
And travelled different roads
I know we'll always end up on the same one when we're old
And when you're in the trenches
And you're under fire I will cover you
If I was dying on my knees
You would be the one to rescue me
And if you were drowned at sea
I'd give you my lungs so you could breathe
I've got you brother
I've got you brother
I've got you brother
I've got you brother
Oh brother, we'll go deeper than the ink
Beneath the skin of our tattoos
Though we don't share the same blood
You're my brother and I love you that's the truth
We're living different lives
Heaven only knows
If we'll make it back with all our fingers and our toes
Five years, twenty years, come back
It will always be the same

We continue to sing that song, memories of old playing in my head. At the end of the song, I had tears in my eyes, as did Laura. We stare at each other for a while, eventually, we go into an embrace, her arms wrapped around me in a hug.

This is what it means to have a family

Short chapter I know, but hey, Jack and Laura had to come to an agreement before the final showdown

Sorry for grammar errors

The song I used was called Brother by Kodaline

The video itself is kind of sad, but I do love this song

Hope you enjoyed the chapter, which character do you like the most

Patron or Laura
