Chapter 3 - Blake x Jack

Blake's P.O.V
The days went by eventless, no major news or supervillain attacks, nothing. School was mostly a pain or boring for me, even Jack has been distant lately, something happened and I'm gonna find out.

Once the day was up, me, Kiyo, Shino, Rikku, Jack and Davis went to a small restaurant and sat at the table, discussing school and other topics when we heard Jack's phone ping. He picked it up, scanned it and then went " sorry guys, I gotta run" before we could ask why or argue, he was gone. After a few minutes, Shino spoke up " ok something's up with him" we nodded in agreement " yeah, at least three times a week, he leaves and does god knows what that he doesn't want us to find out about." Kiyo added.

" well it's his life, maybe we should just stay out of it and if he wants to tell us or not is his decision." Argued Rikku, but I didn't listen, instead I got up a began to trail behind Jack. The others arguing behind me.

I follow jack around the school building, but eventually I lost him. While walking through the empty abandoned hallways, I couldn't help but think about what jack was up to

Is he meeting with someone else? Is he just studying? Why am I so obsessive about this, it's just Jack. 

My thoughts were interrupted by the light sound of music, a guitar strumming, the faint beat just barely heard. I followed the sound to an old storage room, no windows, and a single old wooden door. Soon that guitar sound was amplified and a voice began to sing the lyrics

When I was a child
I didn't hear a single word you said
The things I was afraid of
They were all confined beneath my bed
But the years have been long
And you have taught me well to hide away
The things that I believed in
You've taught me to call them all escapes

The breathtaking music was interrupted by Avian breaking though " Blake what are you doing alone on school grounds?" He demanded, I begin to argue, but after hearing the song and Avian's sudden arrival has left me unable to give a clear answer. " go on get out of here!" He tries to push me away as I try to hear the music again, but the magnificent singer must have heard the commotion and fled.

Once I was heading out of the school grounds, and thinking about what I heard, I came to a conclusion and a mission. Jack was the one singing that song, and I'm gonna prove it.

Over the past few days, I have followed Jack to his hiding spot and listened to his songs, all seeming to talk about his childhood, or old friends. But one day, while listening, he eruptively stopped, I heard footsteps on the other side of the door and before I could react, the door opened and I nearly toppled backwards onto a certain masked figure. " why have you been following me Blake" he asked, his mask almost completely covered his emotions accept in his eyes " am I not allowed to care about you? You have been sneaking around and I had a right to know" I argue

Jack sighs and lets me in, " so what's with the songs, why do you come here in private? How come all the songs are about your old life, something like that?" I ask, but that's just the tip of the ice berg of all the questions im going to interrogate him about. Jack sighs again as he begins to explain

" as you know, I crippled my father not even a half hour after I was born, and my mother use to give me records of all sorts of songs to cheer me up, which is why I am good at all of this music stuff. But what didn't tell you was that my father had a brother, who had a daughter, my cousin. At the other schools, I never had any friends, I was always bullied and messed with. But whenever our relatives came to visit, me and my cousin would play music together, All the time. Country, sad songs, Christmas carols, rap, rock, jazz, old school, even a few sea shanties. I saw her not just as a cousin but something more, a friend, a sister" He explained, letting out a small laugh at the end. I nodded at him so he could continue, his eyes suddenly seemed to grow dark, his mood changing

" one day, we get the news that there was a villain attack on my uncle's home. It was gone, all that was left was burnt wood and ash. They were able to find two bodies, my uncle and his wife, but not my cousin's. Experts thought that her body was burned, or destroyed in the fire, but deep down somewhere in me, I have a feeling that she is still alive, out there, just trying to get through life." He paused for a moment, letting the new information sink in. I stare into his eyes, I could see pain, suffering and confusion in his neon blue irises

" that's why you sing those songs, because of your cousin." I finish, he nods, and clears his throat, clearly trying to hide the sadness in each statement. I slowly inch my hand into his and lightly grip it. He looks over at me and his eyes crinkle a little, he was smiling under the black mask. " hey, how about I hear you sing one more song before we head back." I offer, he seems to think for a moment before answering " ok, but I want you to try to join in, I'll feel weird if it's just me." I let out a small laugh as he begins

I was left to my own devices
Many days fell away with nothing to show
And the walls kept tumbling down
In the city that we love
Grey clouds roll over the hills
Bringing darkness from above

Soon I join in and the two of us together sing the song until the last lyric. At the end of the song, I didn't even realize how close we were together, I looked up at Jack as he looked down at me. He pulled off the mask and smiled at me, soon I stood up on my toes and kissed him on the lips, he bent down a little and leaned into the kiss. My heart began to beat as I felt something electrical like run through me as we kissed, the feeling of freedom and love
