To a spirits dismay

Ace sat upright and examined his shoulder and arm the best he could. He staggered as he stood up wishing he would have just killed the animal while it was sleeping. But what fun is that? He wanted a fight.

Ace sighed, he used his good arm to drag the tiger back to his hut. Small animals like ground squirrels and rabbits scurried out of the way. Ace stared off into space as he let his legs lead him back home. Home. Well it's as good as it's going to get.

Ace stumbled slightly when he finally got back to his small hut and set the tiger down. He'd set a fire and cook the damn thing after he bandaged his arm. His side wasn't doing so hot either, actually it felt pretty damn cold. Whenever he got injured the wound would in a sense "freeze" to heal. In a way he is a logia user, being able to turn into fire but that requires focused concentration, not something Ace's very good at in the middle of a battle.

Ace sulked a little, his arm would bruise pretty badly, his side as well. "Something to look forward to I guess." Ace thought with a frown.

Ace looked up from where he was bandaging his wounds. He heard yelling must be some ignorant hunters Ace thought. They were pretty deep in the forest perhaps pirates or tourists that believe they can overcome the forest's mysteries. It's usually funny to watch them scream and run away, but Ace was simply just not in the mood. He had a tiger to cook anyway.

After he finished securing his bandages making sure they wouldn't fall off he started a fire big enough to cook the tiger. The tiger better taste good.

Ace scowled as he cut the meat portions off the tiger. His blade was getting dull and this was his least favorite part of cooking wild animals. He wished he could just dine and dash. But he planned on staying here for a while he doesn't want a bad reputation till he leaves.

Ace was sitting in comforting silence the only noise being the crackling of the fire. That is until he heard leafs crunching on the ground. Which no doubt a person was responsible.

Ace suspicions were only confirmed when a man who looked to be in his late 30's came through a bush gasping for air. He had clearly been running, sweat covered his forehead.  He seemed a tad bit unfit to be this deep in the forest.

Ace had long made himself invisible, like he said before he had no desire to interact with humans especially if he could easily be seen as inhuman.

The man looked surprised to see the meat being cooked. He looked around obviously looking for someone who would have been responsible but found no one.

Ace frowned as the man approached the food with obviously greedy eyes.

The man looked at the hut with a confused gaze before simply shrugging it off. He couldn't care less, with a meal in front of him.

Ace stood up, he had gotten injured getting this food. He'd die himself before he let someone take it.

As the man began looking for a stick, probably to skewer the meat. Ace had appeared behind him.

The man looked back expecting the meat but only saw ace. His eyes widened before he smiled at Ace.

Ace looked 17 at best. Ace doesn't really know his actual age, sometimes he sleeps for a bit longer than he intends to but he has no qualms with it. It's not like he has a birthday to celebrate. Nor does he have anything better to do.

"I'm sorry, is this yours?" The man smiled at him. He didn't seem like a bad guy, but Ace has had his fair share of meeting guys who seem to be great guys only to stab him in the back for one reason or another. Ace wasn't about to test his luck. His luck is rather bad anyway.

"Yes." Ace's voice echoed slightly to the surprise of the man. But the guy obviously ignored it. He looked beside Ace and the meat was still there. He looked back at Ace as if to ask for permission.

"No." Ace said with no emotion. This was what he didn't want to do, to waste time with a human. The faster the guy left the faster he could eat the faster he could eat the faster he could sleep and so on.

The man frowned in annoyance. His voice gave way to a more aggressive tone. "I doubt you could eat all of that. I'm sure you know how unforgiving this forest is!"

Ace was silent. "I know. But no." Ace said with a slight scowl. His eyebrows furrowed with frustration. He didn't plan on bickering about how much he needed to eat. In fact he didn't need to eat at all, call him selfish he doesn't give a damn.

The man took notice of Ace's condition. Ace didn't know what emotion passed through the man's face, and frankly Ace didn't care.

Without a word Ace drew his knife to the man's throat. The man was surprised by Ace's speed. Ace was glad that there were those who were faster than him, no doubt the man would have cried out that a spirit inhabited these woods otherwise.

The man grabbed Ace's arm harshly and tugged at his freshly scabbed wounds opening them in the process. Ace grunted as he grabbed his arm releasing the man. Blood quickly seeped through the bandages falling to the ground. The man eyed Ace curiously as Ace tried to stomp the blood deeper into the ground. But it was too late.

A fire ignited from the ground, it didn't last long underneath Ace's shoe but it was enough for the man to back away with wide eyes.

That was how you could tell. Blood was blood to any devil fruit user, even a logia. However when a spirit came to be their blood was blood only in their bodies it turned into something different once it hit the ground. For Ace it turned to flame. For Sabo it crumbled and turned to dirt.

The man looked at Ace before turning and running away. Ace would have chased after him but it would only make matters worse. This man was not alone after all.

Ace turned to look at the tiger meat. The one thing he didn't want to do he went and did.

Ace really does have the worst luck doesn't he?
