A look of terrors past

No one knew when, no one.

When you first fall asleep it's filled with darkness, quickly engulfed by dreams or colors. Noises, textures even taste can invade all of your senses.

No one likes when those feelings are harsh.

Blood, teared flesh, and screams. No one would like that, not unless that person is already crazed from it.

Some have seen it all, some have seen so little.

Ace is no different.

Some have nightmares, lucid dreams or some dreams follow a basic storyline. Everyone has heard of sleep paralysis, it's hard not to know what it does.

Visions, images.

"Ever heard of being paralyzed in fear?" Sabo asked as he teared a piece of meat of the boar. Ace was silent, the only sounds was Luffy shoving food in his mouth. "Sure I have." Ace finally responded with a shrug, putting a piece of meat in his own mouth.

Sabo nodded, "I know it's not just a spirit thing... But is it supposed to happen more often?" Ace frowned, "Depends what you mean."

Sabo stopped eating and frowned, "Sometimes when I fall asleep... it's like my heart stops." Ace didn't reply but his face darkened.

"The feeling of death." Ace muttered. He knew Sabo heard him, his face contorted into a grimace. While Luffy only shoved more food into his mouth. Ace shook his head, "I mean... technically as a spirit, you evaded death, it's always around the corner, in a figurative way of speaking anyway.." Ace looked at the piece of meat he's been holding in his hand.

He wanted to keep it from Luffy, but now it's just going to go to waste.

It's no different for Ace.

"You need to leave!" A women shrieked. Aces face contorted into fear as the women clung onto his shoulders. "Your just a damn reminder! Of that man! Of who I lost!" She yelled as tears streamed down her face.

She was blonde, like his mother but she bore no freckles.

"Get off this damn island! Why did you have to reappear?" She pulled at her hair, strand after strand pulled from her head. Ace didn't understand, why was he so unwanted? What did he do?

Was it because he doesn't eat those things? The fish? Was it because he didn't lay down for hours at a time? Why would they do that?

Shouldn't he be the one asking questions?

Ace watched as the island he hardly remembered but knew so well grow smaller, grow further away until he was surrounded by ocean.

Ace held his body against a tree as he looked past it. Those strange men, marines. One of them even has a dog hat on, why would someone wear that anyway?

It didn't matter, dog hat was probably the leader, it made him stand out. The other guys were his lackeys.

That's how it works right?

"Hey brat!" Ace flinched as he turned around. Dog hat was there the entire time?

Aces mouth moved into a thin line.

"What's a brat like you doing on an island like this?"

"Aren't I allowed to ask questions?"

Ace didn't reply.

Ace panicked as dog hat picked him up by the shirt. "Someone like you shouldn't be here." He concluded by himself.

Why take him to an island? That could be considered worse than being deserted.
