The night had gone by silently, those in the crows nest hardly talking to one another while the waves lashed onto the side of the boat. They were around 3 days away from Fish-man island.
Apparently none of them really counted on going to Fish-Man island anytime soon. But going out of their way to go now was the most important on their schedule.
Ace huffed in annoyance as those who were sleeping began filing their way on deck, resuming any chores they didn't get done the previous day or starting new ones entirely.
Ace rested his head on his shoulders waiting patiently for the day to pass. Something he has done many times before with no issue. He had gone the entire night without sleeping and even now he doesn't feel tired at all, but his eyelids felt heavy.
Marco looked over the deck, not particularly surprised to see that he was one of the only commanders on deck, the other two being Namur and Fossa. Curial was no doubt awake, but his duties lie below deck. Izo was most likely getting ready for the day, it usually took around an hour just to do his hair.
Marco didn't actually care though. He had been dealing with this for several years, he won't get angry about something so small now of all times.
The sun hardly showed above the horizon, Thatch probably wouldn't be up in another hour or so. Not that it stopped the man from waking up earlier. The other day he had been up quite early even for his standards.
Marco scanned the ship but didn't see any sign of the spirit, either not above deck or intangible, as Izou called it. It sounded a lot better and in Haruta's words, cooler than invisible. Not that Marco could care about the word they used, he would never admit it out loud but he's definitely been enjoying the spirits on and off company.
Ace looked up from his spot as he heard people start to yell. It didn't sound like an angry or scared type of yell, not even a battle cry. It was more of a welcoming yell. Ace stood up from his spot, he couldn't help but be curious especially when the boredom of being on the ship was slowly eating away at him and his patience.
"Teach is back!" Someone yelled waving over someone else. Ace moved to the side as Marco threatened to land on him, of course, Marco hadn't meant too. "Give him space to dock, yoi." Marco said with a sigh, he moved people away from the railing.
When this Teach guy finally boarded Ace didn't know what to make of him. He certainly didn't look like anything Ace had expected him too. He was, well, fat with missing teeth, but his eyes were the most unsettling. They looked crazed in some way, not that Ace hadn't seen the look before.
Ace could hear the lecture from Sabo already, judging people on appearances and all. Ace just shrugged off his thoughts, he just doesn't seem like a fun guy to talk too.
Ace quickly maneuvered his way from the growing crowd. He's not particularly a crowd person, but who's to say he hates them when he's the one making them half the time.
Izou looked over his shoulder and saw Ace retreat back to his usual secluded corner. From the moment he laid eyes on Ace he knew something was different about him. The fact he was on a boat at all was a huge indicator.
He has met many spirits, many were from wano. Spirits seem to be more present on wano than they are anywhere else. All the years of traveling with pops could tell him that much.
All the years of getting to know spirits, how they become spirits in the first place, how they act, when it comes down to Ace... Well throw all that information he had before into the sea. He has no idea why Ace is so fundamentally different. Spirits are only alike in a single concept, being reborn after death.
