Ace would have laughed his ass off had he not been trapped on a ship. This ship was huge and because of that Ace had no idea where he was going. Which sucked, it's hard to escape successfully if you just trap yourself in another room. Which is exactly what he did, he found himself in a rather large kitchen, it had a few people scattered around, looks like they were putting food away.
Ace sighed in relief, how many people were in the galley anyway? Ace didn't want to think about it.
Ace went under one of the tables for some well deserved peace.
Thatch opened the door slowly and looked in. Everything seemed fine, it didn't look like a psychotic cat made its home anywhere. Thatch rubbed his shoulder, his poor clothes they ripped when the cat jumped on him.
"Did you see a cat run in here?" Thatch asked one of the cooks. The cook looked confused before shaking his head, "no I don't think so?"
Thatch nodded while rubbing his chin. "Well, that's the only door to this room. He's somewhere here." The cooks looked at one another. "You want us to look for it?" Thatch nodded, "That'd be helpful."
Ace inwardly frowned, suppose a cat and kitchens don't necessarily mix. But they know spirits don't eat, why bother? Ace just ripped that Haruta guy to shreds and almost did the same with Thatch, why bother looking for something if you're just going to get hurt?
It just didn't make sense.
Ace pulled his tail closer to his body. Ace scowled, things would be so much easier if he just turned invisible, unfortunately he can only turn invisible in his own form.
He doesn't own the cat's body, therefore he can't eat, sleep, or go invisible in this body. Nor can he get seriously hurt.
When he transforms into an animal it is a reference to real living animals, an animal that already exists. He simply can't change and claim the body as his own, you can think of it as an illusion of sorts. If he gets seriously hurt in this form he will have no other choice but to turn back. That's why Haruta pulling his tail just caused discomfort, if Haruta for example dislocated or broke his tail he would have to turn back into his original body.
Ace can even turn into the younger versions of himself, and since it's his own body just different states of age, he wouldn't be forced to turn back in those kinds of situations. But, why the hell would he need to turn into a kid? That's why he's a damn cat.
Ace felt people scavenging through possible hiding spots, it wouldn't be long until they began looking through, or more specifically under tables.
Just as he said, Ace saw a hand appear in front of him before a face appeared. The man's eyes widened before he yelled for Thatch.
Ace looked around but inevitably he was surrounded, he couldn't jump, he was under a table and all he could see were feet surrounding the table.
"You found him?" The cook nodded before leading Thatch to a table. "He's underneath sir." Thatch frowned. "I'm not going to rub my hair on the ground for the cat." The cooks nodded with understanding.
Getting his hair dirty was out of the question. But they didn't want the cat booking it as soon as they moved the table.
"You lot are dismissed for right now, lock the door on your way out." The cooks looked at each other with questionable gazes before nodding. "Oh, and grab a commander on your way out, probably not Haruta though." Thatch said with a grin. The others shrugged before doing as they were told.
Ace watched as Thatch ordered the others away. Ok, this gives Ace a chance to escape from underneath the table, but he wouldn't be able to leave the room. He saw a ventilation system, but that probably wasn't the smartest idea.
Only Thatch's shoes remained around a table. He heard the door open one more time before the inevitable locking sound of the door.
"You found the terrorizer, yoi?" Thatch nodded before looking down at the table. "He's underneath." Marco nodded before eyeing the table.
"You are a spirit, right?" Marco asked. His eyes didn't move from the table.
Unsurprisingly, there was no response from the cat.
Thatch looked over at Marco. "Spirits are things that died right?" Marco looked over at Thatch, "From what we know, yea, yoi."
"I don't think it's a cat though, yoi. From Haruta's report he used Armament Haki." Thatch frowned. "He definitely did."
Marco looked back at the table. "You mean to sneak on our ship?" Thatch shook his head answering for the cat. "No, from what I got told, he was being chased by bounty hunters." Marco looked thoughtfully at the table.
You know Ace likes to hear about theories and all, but not when they are about him. It's just not entertaining.
The blonde dude, who he found out was named Marco, kept asking questions, questions Ace would rather not answer. Not that he could, he is a cat. Different vocal cords really do a number on your ability to speak.
Marco looked impatiently at the table, with Thatch here he couldn't do anything that would require force.
Marco looked at Thatch before getting on his knees and putting his hand underneath the table. He won't hurt the thing but he'll scare it out.
Ace looked at Marcos hand skeptically. He didn't know what he was doing. He wasn't making an effort to reach in, or grab Ace.
Without warning Marcos hand lit itself into a blue and yellow flame. Ace felt his body back up to the wall. Yea, it made him uncomfortable as hell, but he knows better, flame won't do anything to him.
Ace watched with disdain as Marco started reaching his hand further under the table.
Ace watched as his own flames began reacting to the blue ones. Mixing, making a strange purple with orange and blue hues. He didn't know what was happening, he only ate his devil fruit like. "Was it a day ago?" Ace shook his head his point was that he was very inexperienced and didn't know how his fruit worked.
Marco quickly retracted his hand in surprise. Thatch looked at him, confused. Marco didn't know what happened, it felt like it got warmer but it didn't burn. Marco suddenly didn't want to put his hand where he couldn't see it anymore.

So I was wondering if y'all would prefer longer wait times for chapters and longer chapters or would you guys like to stick with 1000 words minimum with close to daily updates. If you choose the first option it's not something I'm not particularly used to, but it's not something that I'm opposed to trying. I know I'm not going to get an immediate response so the next few chapters will be 1000 words anyway, but this question is for the future of this book.
This question will be up for debate until the series is marked as completed!
