"You know what I want, Aidan," Stanislas said. And after a pause, he waved his hand and added: "This is too distracting. Let's get out to keep on with our conversation."

We followed him out in the alley. There was nothing else we could do, if we wanted to prevent a bloodbath in the club. Once out in the dark street, Aidan faced him. "I already told you. I'm not going back to you," he said.

"Really? Is it because of her?"

"No, it's because you're a pathetic arrogant asshole."

Stanislas laughed. "All this anger, though, it must be love."

With his eyes locked on Aidan, he bit his own lip, and as some drop of blood coloured his mouth, he cupped Aidan's face and kissed him. My vampire pushed him away, wiping Stanislas' blood from his face, in shock. "Don't pretend you don't want more," the old vampire said.

Aidan stumbled, shaken. He showed his teeth and Stanislas smiled again. "Yes, that's what I'm talking about."

He put his hand on Aidan's neck and lifted him as if he weighed nothing. The man I love tried to get away in vain. "You belong to me," Stanislas whispered.

"Leave him alone," I said.

Stanislas looked at me with disdain. "I heard you are not in the best of shape right now, darling."

He winked at me and laughed. He was right, but I had to do something. I strode toward him, and he dropped Aidan, who fell on the floor, to face me with an amused smile.

"Elise, no!" Aidan screamed while trying to catch his breath.

I punched Stanislas, and he stepped back with the shock. He did not like that and replied by pinning me on the wall. I did not have all my abilities. Therefore, I could not free myself. He was too strong.

"Stanislas, please, let her go," Aidan said.

The old vampire turned his head toward him and seemed to contemplate the idea. "Well, let's see. Kneel before me and I will consider letting her go."

Aidan stiffened. He hesitated but, after a few seconds, he bent slowly forward and knelt down, his head lowering toward the ground.

Stanislas looked like he enjoyed greatly this moment. "Alright. Anything for you, my dear," he said. And then he threw me against the wall on the other side of the street. I fell heavily on the ground.

"Well, this was fun," Stanislas said. "As you probably know, I decided to stay in Paris a little longer. This city is in great need of a king. Fortunately, here I am."

I coughed and lifted my head to look at him in the eyes: "You know what we do to kings in Paris."

"I like your spirit. Well, we'll see each other soon, I can tell you that. And come visit me, Aidan dear. You cannot limit yourself to a dump like that when you could be a prince at my side. I will be waiting. But not for long. You better hurry."

Aidan forced a smile tainted with disgust. But it seemed to amuse Stanislas. He waved his hand and one of his followers put his coat on his shoulders and they left without a word.
