"Wasting My Young Years", London Grammar

I wanted to see Aidan, to try to repair the damage, to hold him. I went to his apartment but there was no light behind the glass wall of his living room and the courtyard was silent.

I realized it was Saturday, and I thought that he was maybe at The Pearl.

It was still early when I arrived at the club, so it was not yet at full capacity. The new bartenders said hi. Anna was not there, neither was Aidan, or any of my friends. The club felt lonely and sad without them.

There was an open mic to start the night, and after a beautiful rendition of an Adele song by a young woman who looked proud to have managed to sing in front of an audience, maybe for the first time, I got up on stage.

My fingers ran on the keys of the piano and I sang "Wasting My Young Years" by London Grammar. I liked the irony.

After the first verses, I suddenly felt Aidan's presence in the room. While keeping on singing, I turned my head, and I saw him. He was previously in my office and had got out when he had heard my voice.

He stared at me and me at him. There was sadness, but also hope and love in his eyes, and no more anger. I knew I had not lost him.

When I finished the song, I was going to run to him but I felt something that stopped me. A very powerful supernatural being had just entered the room. Aidan and I looked at him.

The man, definitely a vampire, exuded arrogance. Blond hair cut short and clean, brown eyes. He was tall and muscular, and was probably forty years old when he had been turned.

He was surrounded by Nawel and seven other vampires, who were clearly much younger than he was. It was uncomfortable to watch, the deference you could feel they had for him. He entered the room as if he owned the place. It could be only one person, Stanislas.

I walked toward him before Aidan had the time to get down the stairs. Stanislas looked at me as if surprised someone would dare to bother him. He scrutinized me, up and down, and said: "Oh yeah, the immortal, right?"

"Herself. You must be Stanislas."

"I see my reputation precedes me. As always." He smiled widely.

"Indeed. I would like for you to stay away from my club. You are not welcome here. Also, if it were your plan, know that you cannot cause any violence in here. The place is protected."

His face showed no reaction for a few seconds before he burst into laughter. Without saying a word, he slid swiftly to the nearest human in the crowd. He took the girl in his arms, as if to dance, and discretely bit her neck, so quickly no human could see.

He just took a sip of her blood and healed her in a second but he had proved his point. The woman pushed him away, not aware of the danger she had just escaped from and went to the other side of the room.

"Cheap tricks don't work on me," he told me.

Aidan, who was now near us, intervened: "What do you want?"

The old vampire stared at him with a smile. "Aidan dear, I was looking for you."
