Summary: You and Miguel confess your feeling to each other at the school dance. *Unedited*

Waning: Fluff

I stood at the entrance of the gym waiting to go in. Tonight was the night of the school dance and I was beyond nervous. I knew Miguel would be there and the thought of that alone was enough to make me want run away. It wasn't until a group of teenagers pushed past me that I snapped out of my thoughts. I needed to go in now or I wouldn't go in at all.

Taking one last glance at my costume, I made my way inside. Slowly walking in, I looked around the gym, hoping to spot a familiar face. As I looked to my left, my eyes landed on Miguel. He was talking to Demetri and Eli as they sipped on some punch. He looked cute in his skeleton costume. I smiled at the thought. Before I could look away, his eyes met mine. I blushed having been caught, my eyes looked towards the ground in embarrassment.

I tried to move to blend in with the crowd my efforts proved to be pointless as a figure stood in front of me. Already knowing who it was I was in no hurry to look up. I slowly looked up as I heard him clear his throat, my cheeks still burning. I shyly smiled as my eyes met his. He looked just as nervous as I did as he send me timid smile.

We stood for a few seconds in silence, not knowing was to say. Our gazes never left each other as the silence continued to surround us despite the loud music playing I throughout the gym. Suddenly Miguel held his hand out, his palm facing the ceiling almost as if he wanted to me take his hand. I laughed at the incredulous thought, embarrassed to even have thought of that.

Sensing my somewhat confusion mixed with unwavering nervousness, he let out a slight chuckle before speaking. "Sorry", he started as a wide, but shy grin overtook his features, "guess I should've probably asked first."

I sent him a questioning glance, my hands still at my sides. He took a deep breath before continuing.

"Would you like to dance with me?", he asked.

Trying to hide what I already knew was a shocked expression, I looked back down at his hand. I guess my stunned silence was mistaken as rejection as Miguel let out a quiet sigh in what sounded like defeat. He retracted his hand causing me to look up again. He shook his head as he blushed in embarrassment.

"I'm sorry", he started, "I shouldn't have asked you liked that."

Letting out another sigh he turned, beginning to walk away. My eyes widened in realization. "Wait", I said a little too desperately. He instantly turned around at the sound of my voice, an expectant look on his face. I made my way over to him and held my hand out in the same way he did.

"I would love to dance", I added with a smile. He smiled back before grabbing my hand. We made our way over to the dance floor before getting into position. My hands made their way onto his shoulders as he placed his on my waist. We swayed to the music for a couple seconds before he spoke up.

"I'm Miguel", he said, his smile not leaving his face. I softly chuckled and looked at the ground.

"I know", I said as I looked up, "I'm Y/N", I finished.

It was his turn to chuckled as he softly shook his head, "I know."

We both laughed as we continued to dance, our eyes never leaving each other. Miguel cleared his throat, suddenly looking nervous. I looked at him confused as he looked around.

"Miguel", I started, "what's-", before I could finish, his eyes met mine.

"Okay, I'm going to tell you something", he started. I continued to look at him with the same confused expression.

"I'm going to just come right out and say it because if I don't I might not ever tell you and my sensei told me I should 'strike first' and that's what I'm trying to do, so I'm just-", his eyes were wide as he rambled. I cut him off before he could continue, not wanting him to pass out from the lack of oxygen flowing to his brain.

I laughed as I spoke, "Miguel, calm down. You're not going to be able to tell me anything if you pass from being out of breath."

Despite being out of breath, he let out a small laugh of his own. Taking a deep breath he started over.

"Okay", he started as he took a deep breath before continuing, "My sensei always told me to 'strike first', so that's what I'm going to do."

I nodded despite being confused at the phrase. Taking another deep breath, he looked me in the eyes.

"I've been wanting to tell you this for awhile, but I've been too nervous, so I'm just going to come out and say it", he said. I nodded, urging him to continue.

"I like you Y/N. A lot", he finished. I'm sure my mouth almost hit the ground in shock as I stared at him. My heart began to beat faster as I stared at him. Seeing the familiar nervous look from before, I spoke up, not wanting him to think the wrong thing.

"I like you too", I blurted out before thinking, "a lot."

A smile replaced his nervous expression. "Really?", he asked in an excited tone. I laughed while nodding.

"I've liked you since you sat next to me in science on the first day", I said honestly.

He looked shocked at the confession. "Seriously!", he said, "I knew I liked you when I walked into science on my first day."

I blushed at his statement, but smiled nonetheless. My mind was blown by the conversation we were having. I never knew Miguel liked me the way I liked him.

"So, do you want to go on date that's not in the gym with a punch of sweaty teenagers in costumes?", he asked. I laughed before nodding.

"I would love to", I replied.

The rest of the night was spent dancing and laughing. The smiles never left our faces. Every now and then we'd go grab a drink or snack and just talk. We found out that we had a lot more in common than we thought.  Before long my phone went off signaling my mom was here to take me home. I sighed while looking at my phone.

"I have to go. My mom's here", I told Miguel. He nodded before pulling out his now phone.

"Here", he said, "put your number in."

After putting my number in his phone I sent him one last smile before leaning in for a hug. He hugged back, wrapping his arms around my shoulders. Pulling away, I sent him one last look before making my way out of the gym.

As I made my way towards the schools exit, I heard fast footsteps behind me. I instantly turned around, my curiosity getting the best of me. I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding as I noticed it was Miguel.  Miguel leaned down and placed his hands on his knees, panting from running.

"Miguel?", I asked confused. He held his hand up as he continued to try and catch his breath. After a moment, he stood up and walked until he was right in form of me. Without saying anything, he reached forward and placed his hands on my cheeks. I looked at him in shock. Before I could ask what he was doing, his lips met mine in a slow, passionate kiss.

My legs almost gave out at the feeling of his lips on mine. All too soon, he pulled away, his hands still on my face.

I was the first to break the silence as I stared at him, "I'm going to need to thank your sensei for the whole 'strike first' thing", I said. He laughed before letting out a quiet 'okay' before leaning in to kiss me again.
