Kemi's POV
I recoiled on the bed scrolling through my phone. I wasn’t doing anything in particular, just an aid to ease the tension in the room. Ronke sat by the Corner fiddling with some clothes. She had stopped sobbing but hadn’t uttered a word. Not wanting to pressurize her, i gave her some space to feel better.
“We started to see a month ago.” Came her low quaky voice. I sat up directing my gaze to hers. Her head was bent and it was difficult reading her facial expression.
“What? You guys have been together for a month?” The surprise in my voice was so notable and my face marred with shock.
“Yes .” She nodded with her head still bent. I sighed walking to where she had sat.
“But Ronke, Your relationship with him is not good health wise.” I advised.
“I don’t know what I am doing Kemi. I am also scared for myself.” She broke into sobs again. I sat embracing her shaky self into a warm hug.
“Please don’t cry.” I pleaded rubbing her back.
“So what should I do now?” She questioned raising her head. Her eyes were swollen from crying and she had heavy bags under them.
I sighed loss for words. Her eyes bored into mine searching for answers, and on impulse I had to look elsewhere, looking for how to join the puzzled words in my head into a complete sentence.
“Where is he now? I mean Gideon.” I questioned. I knew my question was a bit off and not directed to her question, but after much hesitation I couldn’t come up with another question.
“He relocated to Lagos some months ago for a job. You remember when I left for job hunting a certain time?” She questioned. I nodded prompting her to continue.
“We ran into each other coincidentally.” She continued. “I swear I thought it was going to be brief. Like just the usual hi and hellos. But he requested for a casual date. He told me a lot that had happened to him after our breakup. Kemi do you know he is still single. Single just like I am.” She announced and I didn’t miss the amusement in her eyes.
“Mm Ronke I…” I had started to protest before a loud knock on the door came in. We both exchanged worried glances returning our gaze to the direction it came.
“Are you expecting anyone?” I questioned. It was 10pm and it worried me that anyone would visit at such a late hour.
“No I am not expecting anyone.” She shrugged. I stood up walking outside. The knock persisted louder and I trudged further fetching the closest source of defense for a attack.
A mop stick
“You guys should open the damn door.” Came a familiar voice and I almost choked up a laughter dropping the mop stick to the floor.
I turned the knob and a tired looking Bisola walked in drawing a mini traveling box behind. She squealed in amusement engulfing me into a hug.She had been a away for quite sometime and just returned.
“Kemi hope you don’t mind if I spend the night here?” She questioned withdrawing from the hug with a pout.
“So if I decline you will travel back to Osun ahbi? Moreover what happened to your own apartment?” I questioned.
“Kemi story for another day. I am exhausted. Where is my baby girl Ronke?”
“ I am here Bisi.” Ronke chuckled from a corner walking to our direction with a smile plastered on her face. She wasn’t looking sober unlike before and I noticed she had applied some powder and lip stain to her face.
