Victor's POV

So once in a while, I would steal quick glances to her direction controlling the laughter struggling for release from my mouth.

She looked so cute having that scowl on her face.

And why?

All because I had clearly denied any form of familiarity amongst us.

Her mum Mrs. Dora, as Ireti had introduced earlier was a beauty. And no doubt Kemi, a replica. She appeared younger than I had quite imagined with little or less grey hairs. Though, she had bags beneath her eyes, and a stressed out appearance she looked quite the young mother. Maybe fifty.

"Victor." A familiar voice snapped winding me back to present. It couldn't be anyone else.

Ireti narrowed her brows in confusion, her arms folded on her bosom.

"Hmm?" I hummed totally embarrassed as I felt three eyes hovering over me, with maybe the younger eyes throwing daggers at me.

"I was asking if you could take kemi with you to get groceries ." Ireti piped.

"Oh, Ire. That wouldn't be necessary. Kemi can just buy food from this food vendors around." Kemi's mother suggested and I sighed hoping the other woman just settle with that.

"That's why the typhoid keeps returning. I don't trust all these food vendors, they clearly don't appreciate hygiene." She chipped. " Except for a few." She added giving Kemi an awkward glance.

The room was in abrupt silence and anyone close would notice the side glances the mother gave to her daughter, maybe in an attempt to coerce her over her friend's demand. And at an insight I felt the drill that maybe both women were trying to get rid of us to have some private time together all in an excuse of wanting Kemi and I to go grocery shopping so she could prepare dinner. My instincts prayed it shouldn't be Ireti scheming her way in trying the matchmakers plan.

Why was she stubborn. One of the reasons for my brutal deniance was to avoid pressing issues like this.

From the little I had known in just three days about her,

She was sweet,

Caring,

But dangerously pushy.

"We should go then. So we return on time." Kemi broke in looking elsewhere but me.

"Such a lovely child. You're right. Victor you both can leave now." Ireti spoke up blooming with smiles.

She sure had a plan.

So after Kemi had hugged her mum for almost what seemed like eternity, she fetched her purse walking out of the door while I trailed behind.

*****

Okay, so I was expecting that she lash out or question why I had denied any familiarity between us, but was quite disappointed. She acted indifferently. Instead, she was clearly avoiding any closeness that may throw us into any sort of communication.

We were outside and she stood tapping her legs anxiously on the floor, with her hands firmly on her waist, a scowl amusingly on her face.

Her silence was killing me but strangely, I found it so cute.

"So, where are we headed?" I questioned motioning to where the car had been parked. Other vehicles had packed just around ours and it was obvious she was ignorant of which of the cars was mine.

She gave no reply as she increased her steps to the blue Toyota Camry I had pointed too. After unlocking the doors to the car, we stepped in, shutting the doors simultaneously. I glanced at her seat waiting for directions which I wasn't sure was forthcoming. With a sigh I ignored her attitude which was slowly becoming annoying.
