Poe Cup

Y/n usually wakes up with the sun, on the day of the Poe Cup it wouldn't be any different.

She always had an uncontrolled competitive instinct, which is why she decided never to participate in cups or competitions.

But she liked to see others compete and root for someone, so when she sat up in bed and saw Xavier still sleeping, she started to wonder what his team's theme was.

She thought it would be kind of weird waking him up just to ask questions about the Poe Cup, so she decided to wait for him to wake up.

Y/n took his uniform that was in a black and purple box decorated with the nevermore academy emblem, and went into the bathroom.

When she came out of the bathroom she was surprised to see Xavier sitting on the bed, as soon as he saw her he seemed to be hypnotized, maybe it was drowsiness, maybe something else...

- What? Is there something wrong with the uniform? - she asked worriedly looking for something wrong with her clothes.

- No, there's nothing wrong with the outfit, it's just that... red really is your color, that uniform looks perfect on you. - he said quickly gesturing with his hands.

Y/n smiled genuinely and remembered the cup and the things she wanted to ask him.

- Oh, thank you, Xavier. - hearing her say his name made him shiver and feel like he wanted to hear her say it more. - Ah, today is poe cup day, I was wondering what your team's theme is.

The question made Xavier wake up fully, Y/n sat down next to him.

- Ah, it's The Jokers... - he said and Y/n got excited.

- Who will do your makeup? Can i see your costume? - she asked grabbing his arm.

- Oh, me and Ajax are going to make each other up, I guess. - he said and Y/n wondered who Ajax was.

Then someone knocked on the door and Xavier went to open it revealing a boy with covered hair, and soon you assumed he was a gorgon.

- Y/n, this is Ajax, he is a gorgon. Ajax this is Y/n, she is a born vampire. - he said closing the door.

- Your new roommate is a girl, the fire girl, and she was born a vampire? I never heard of it. - he said impressed to Xavier. - Sorry, it's nice to meet you, the whole school is wondering who the mysterious red girl is, Enid even mentioned you on her blog. - he said looking you up and down.

- Who's Enid? Oh, you introduce me later. Can I do your makeup? It will be perfect, I promise. - Y/n asked with pleading eyes.

- I couldn't say no to that face. - Ajax said raising arms in surrender.

- Me neither. - said Xavier smiling to her.

They put on the costumes and you started to make up Ajax first while xavier waited lying in bed.

- Wow. It really turned out amazing! Xavier wouldn't have done so well. - he said as soon as you said you were done.

- Hey! Of course i would have done well. - he said pretending to be offended.

- Come here, I'll do your makeup now. - Y/n said while laughing with Ajax.

They switched places and with each makeup touch-up you did, you noticed how pretty Xavier's eyes were.

When she finished his makeup she stopped for a moment to admire him and their eyes met, since she arrived she hadn't stopped to pay real attention to Xavier.

- Hey, I'm still here. - said Ajax taking them out of the trance they didn't even know they were in.

- Oh, I finished, did you like it? - Y/n said shyly.

- I loved it, it's perfect, really perfect. - he said looking in the mirror.

{ At the lake waiting for the cup to start}

Y/n felt like everyone was looking at her, luckily she liked the attention.

Her hearing was sharp to the point of hearing distant whispers, it was not difficult to hear the conversation of the competitors and perceive certain looks.

Y/n noticed Ajax look and smile at a blonde girl from the black cats, the same one that caught your attention when you arrived, maybe that was Enid.

- Focus. - she heard the only girl from the black cats who was without face paint say to the blonde girl, she was the "personification of darkness".

Then she noticed a quick exchange of glances between Xavier and the girl with the braids and wondered what was really between them as she crossed her arms.

- What do we have here? The runt of the litter. - Bianca said to the girl.

- For the record, I don't believe I'm better than everyone else. Just that I'm better than you. - "Ouch, she's cocky, wait..." She remembered the conversation between Xavier and Bianca the night before, "She's Wednesday, how did she hear what bianca said? Where was she hiding?".

- I want to welcome you all to the Edgar Allan Poe Cup. This is one of Nevermore proudest annual traditions, dating back 125y. Each team row across to Raven Island, pull a flag from Crackstone's Crypt, and hustle back without sinking or being sunk. First team to cross the finish line with their flag wins the cup and bragging rights for a year, as well as some special privileges. Let the Poe Cup begin! - said Weems.

Xavier team outruns the other teams, the boat of one of the teams ends up crashing and breaking, leaving the black cats, the gold bugs and the jokers.

Y/n felt that something would go wrong for the jokers so she took advantage of everyone's distraction and became invisible, spread her wings and followed the boats.

Flying over where they stopped, she saw Enid use her claws to sabotage the jokers' boat, so taking advantage of the fact that no one could see her, and her strength was immense, she decided to help Xavier and Ajax.

When they got back she was prepared to hold the boat just above the water level so it wouldn't sink, she knew the boys were distracted enough not to notice that the boat was damaged.

Everyone returning and Enid was confused about how the jokers boat didn't sink but ignored it and the black cats sank the gold bugs.

Noticing it was the black cats against the jokers, Y/n flew faster to make sure they didn't get left behind.

- The final two teams are the black cats... and the Jokers. - Weems announced.

The jokers finally reach the deck and Y/n can let go of the boat, flying discreetly into the crowd, hiding your wings and staying visible as Xavier and his team crossed the finish line celebrating.

- I know you had something to do with it, I saw the damage to the boat, but...thanks a lot, Y/n.- said Xavier hugging Y/n, she wanted to stay in that hug forever.

Xavier broke the hug and went back to celebrating with Ajax and the others.

- At least we came in second, and we sink Bianca, i never got so close. This is the greatest moment of my entire life. Admit it, you kinda got into the whole school spirit thing. - Y/n heard the blonde girl talk to Wednesday.

- You didn't tell me it was a dark, vengeful spirit. - Wednesday said.

{ In the quad }

- The first Poe Cup took place in 1897 as a way to not only honor Nevermore's most famous alumni, but to celebrate those values that all outcasts share. Community, perseverance and determination. And we certainly saw those values on display today. Congratulations to the Jokers! - Weems said and everyone cheered and shouted.
