"You guys good?"
"Yeah!"
"You sure you can fit through there?"
"It's the only way!"
"Richie you're kicking me in the head man!"
"Then keep fucking moving!"
Lydia Kaspbrak stared ahead unmoving, the trauma in the back of her mind gnawing at her every step that she took closer to the clown's domain, pleading with her to go back, to turn tails, take Eddie and leave. To go back home to their son. No matter how much she wanted to, she knew she just couldn't do it, she couldn't abandon her losers. And so staring ahead at the small mouth of the cave her need to run had never felt so severe, so real, but her heart had never fought back so hard.
"Through here! It's tight but we can get through!" Bill called as Bev desperately wormed her way between the uncarved stone.
"Babe? Are you okay?" Eddie breathed, his arms wrapped around her much smaller frame and he buried his chin against her shoulder. Lyds had never been so glad for her husbands touch.
"I'm scared Eddie." She admitted, "This is it. What if one of us dies here? What if this is the end?"
"Well if it's the end then I still had the best life I coulda asked for. I got you in the end of it all L. That's all that matters to me. I won."
"You always had such a way with words." She forced a smile, ignoring the twinge in her lip or the way it quivered.
"I know I might have gone a little crazy up there but I'm telling you, we have got this babe. We're stronger together."
"We're a team." She whispered, releasing those three words they'd breathed to one another so many times before. Eddie felt his body flood with relief at the mere sound. She was on his side, just as always.
"That's right." He kissed the skin just beneath her jaw, "Come on. Let's be scared together."
And with those final words uttered between the lovers Eddie Kaspbrak took the love of his life's hand and ushered her through the small gap in the cave, pushing her through to the other side where she rolled flat out into the dirt. He was quick to join her, landing on top of his love with a harsh thud and a pained groan.
"Eddie!"
"You were in the landing zone!" He exclaimed, rolling off of her.
"Fucking idiot!"
"She just died, you gotta be more gentle dude." Bill chuckled, despite the reality of the situation they were all in.
With that all too familiar smile on his lips, the Denborough man helped his childhood friend up from the dirt, wiping the dust from her back with the palm of his hand, Eddie was quick to scramble to his feet, nudging Bill out of the way and taking over once more.
"You always have a way of stealing Bill's thunder don't you?" Lydia let out a soft laugh, her eyes shone so bright when they met Eddie's; he wished he could burn that final image of her into his brain, but alas it was never to be.
"Shut up moron." He rolled his eyes, his arm found its home around her waist once more. He didn't care about the filth that coated either of them, as a kid his mind would've gone haywire, but he'd come along way since then, he'd grown up. And it was all thanks to her. "I didn't hurt you did I?"
"Never." She told him, ignoring the throbbing in her side.
The woman moved her lips to speak once more but any attempt fell on deaf ears at the sight of the cave ahead of them. The passage they'd taken opened out into what looked like a crater, before them stood jagged structures unlike anything they'd seen before, they weren't made of stone but something new entirely and the ceiling had grown so high that all that hung above them was complete darkness. They knew then that they'd found Pennywise's home.
