Chapter song: obstacles- Syd matters

It had been pretty hard dodging all the security cars driving around the city, not that it mattered now. I stood tall, staring at the main HQ building in front of me,
"If Wicked has Minho, that's where they'll be keeping him" Gally's words flashing into my mind as I stared at the building, stepping forward towards the doors, which automatically opened in front of me, allowing me to step straight in. I saw some detectors which I would have to step through to get into the actual building and as I casually walked through them, alarms began blaring out. I pulled my hands up to my ears as soldiers began rushing over to me, trying to grab me,
"Ow Jheez get off me you.. freaks" I tried to shake them off me but it was no use, they grabbed my hands, pulling them behind my back as they started to push me through the white corridors, into the lift. The ride up was very awkward and the silence was so loud,
"So.. uh.. busy day?" I asked, looking at the soldier who stood next to me, clutching onto his gun tightly. I looked down as the radio buzzed,
"Do you have her?" Janson's voice rang out, I would recognise that rat's voice a mile off,
"We're bringing her to you sir" The soldier replied, his voice masked and fuzzy through the suit. The lift doors flew open and the men continued to escort me through the building as I received plenty of strange looks from doctors and other people who were roaming the building. We finally reached door to a medical room and the soldiers basically threw me in, pushing me to the floor as the also stepped in, locking the door behind me,
"You can loose the guns and the lock, I'm not gonna run" I spat, shaking the soldier off, who finally let go. I stood up to see Janson and Ava, stood in front of me,
"Ah! Just the people I wanted to see" I stood up straight, gesturing at the two, who looked very unimpressed,
"What are you doing here y/n? Last time we saw you, you shot me" Janson asked, making me scoff,
"Oh yeah I did didn't I.. but that is in the past. And you know what they say about the past... it's uh.. it's in the past so.." I mumbled, furrowing my brows at myself as I realised what I had said.
"What do you want." Janson pushed,
"I want to find the cure. I can't do that without your help" The two 'doctors' looked between themselves before Janson broke out in laughter, "I'm serious okay? Why else would I be here?" I slowly reached for my pistol, taking it from my holster, clicking on the safety before placing it on the floor, kicking it towards Janson with my foot. He looked at me, realising I was serious,
"Dr Paige, if you would be so kind to take y/n to Esme, she can stay with her, make sure she isn't up to anything" The doctor nodded, smiling at me before unlocking the door, leading me back out into the lift.

Ava took me up to the top floor, it was filled with luxury rooms. A kitchen, bathrooms and dormitories. She stopped in front of a room: room 642 was labelled on the door and as the doctor knocked three times a small girl opened the door. She had long brown hair which fell under her shoulders, a small portion of it plaited neatly. Her face was bright and freckles littered her cheeks and nose and her eyes shone a bright chestnut brown. She wore loose denim trousers and a plain grey tee with a brown bomber jacket over the top,
"Esme. This is y/n, she's a very important person and she's going to help us find a cure. Help her settle in tonight and then bring her down to the testing room tomorrow morning sharp." Ava told the small girl, who had a pretty big smile on her face. The doctor turned to me, "You're in safe hands now y/n, you did the right thing, coming here today" Ava turned around leaving the two of us alone. The girl excitedly turned to me, putting her hand out for me to shake,
"I can't believe I've got a roomie! She squealed, "I'm Esme. Esme Madden" I shook her hand, smiling to myself as I walked into the room. It was pretty modern, especially compared to the ripped hammock I was used to. Two single beds sat in the middle, accompanied with bedsides tables, charging ports and two individual walk-in wardrobes.
"Y/n L/n" I introduced myself, looking around the room before back down at the girl,
"You're one of the ones who stole those kids!" She gasped, and I nodded at her, "why?"
"Listen kid, Wicked aren't particularly nice to those who aren't on their side. They took my friend, we were just trying to get him back" I don't think she cared too much,
"I'm 10. I'm not a kid anymore" She said, making me chuckle.
"How'd someone like yourself end up here" I asked, gesturing to the room we found ourselves in. I watched as Esme rolled up her trouser leg, small black veins climbing her calf. The virus had only just got her, but she didn't have long,
"They said if I stayed here and helped them, they could cure me" She said sadly, sitting down at a small two-chaired table in the corner of the room, "Can you cure me?" I walked over to the table, taking a seat opposite her,
"I'm gonna get you a cure okay? And then we'll find my friends and we're gonna get the hell out of here, you hear me?" I asked,
"Where would we go? It's not safe out there" She asked, her eyes lighting up as I spoke about leaving,
"Oh it'll be far from here. There'll be an island with beaches and fish and fresh fruits and forests filled with trees and life" I explained. It had to be accurate enough, sure we hadn't seen the island but I knew it was be perfect.

I laughed to myself as I stood in front of the shower, watching the steam bounce off the water. I hadn't had a cold shower for years, despite a warm one. I looked down at the soap and towels Esme had given me, stepping into the warm water, rubbing the bar of soap all around my body and in my hair, finally clearing the mud and grime from them. I almost felt guilty for a second. I mean, no doubt the others were worried for me, and Minho was somehow locked up in here, but here I was, in a luxury room with a cute kid and a warm shower with free food. I watched as the colour of the water went from a pale red and brown to clear, finally stepping out of the shower, getting changed into a black crop top and black tracksuit bottoms that Esme gave me so she could wash my clothes. As I walked back into the room, I saw Esme sat at the table alone, two bowls of steaming soup with some buttered bread on the side on the table,
"Chicken and sweetcorn noodle soup" She said, taking small sips of it from her spoon. I sat down looking at the girl before giving in, taking a mouthful of the soup. It tasted amazing, so much better than the cold beans I was used to eating. I hadn't had a proper meal for years and it was so worth the wait.
